One of te reasons that AlGore's fascination with the "alpha male" protrayal was so intense is that Rove and W took away many of the issues that AlGore had planned on using. Between Naomi Wolfe, steroids and growth hormone (anyone who has lifted weights knows that AlGore couldn't have bulked up as quickly as he did without some help from the Chemistry Department, especially at his age.), a large wardrobe from Land's End and airbrushed crotches, he almost pulled it off. His campaign appeared to be more of a fashion show than a serious camppaign.

Actually AlGore's campaign was more like a Presidential campaign for "Fabio". The only things missing were red suspenders and break-away pants.

You need to educate yourself about what is banned. Semi-automatic handguns and rifles are still legal. The banned guns are simply guns that look military. Items like hand grips and bayonet lugs are the only difference. If you want to buy an AR15 or AK47, you can. They aren't banned. If you want a handgun with a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, you can get one today.

When people call this an ugly gun ban, they are accurate. An "assault rifle" is an automatic weapon. The "asault weapon ban" simply banned a few ugly semi-automatic guns and new, high capacity magazines. Since there are millions of old high capacity magazines that still work in the new guns, that ban is without teeth.

It was (and is) a ridiculous law that was meant to get the camel's nose under the tent. It's time to kick the camel out. Eliminating this law will not make it easier to get an effective semi-automatic rifle or pistol.

My question was rhetorical. I had already answered it in my post. You said the dems will say, "Well, it was killed in committee. What could we do?" Bush's tactic appears to be the exact same thing. Why? Because he is pandering to the very same liberal groups.

Also, I do not see how this issue has been removed from the debate. In fact, the debate (within his base) began as soon as Bush said that he would sign it. I do not think that it is a brilliant strategy to alienate a large faction of the base. If Bush knew that it was not going to ever cross his desk, then a good strategy would have been not to say anything at all. But then he wouldn't be able to have it both ways.

Furthermore, Bush said that he would sign the renewal BEFORE the Republicans ever had control of both the house and the senate.

If it were to reach his desk, then Bush would sign it. That alone is a matter of concern, whether it reaches his desk or not. Whether it reaches his desk or not, he is on record as saying that he supports it as a good thing.

A book bag and a bookbag, and maybe a book-bag. She didn't see his face because the camouflage shirt was on fire or he was firing the "machinegun." White pants a dead give-away: yet another frustrated graduate student who has just wasted 2-5 years of his life in a fruitless search for professional recognition.

Except the laws only stop the law abiding. The terrorists all come from countries that were supplied by Russia, they can smuggle in AK47s by the truck load. Very few violent crimes are performed with legally owned weapons, last stat I saw on assault weapons was that NO violent crimes have ever been performed with legally owned assault weapons.

Criminals can easily get machine guns. The ban on so called Assault weapons would not slow them down one bit.
