SAN ANTONIO -- A teenage girl who was shot by Drug Enforcement Administration agents died Tuesday night at Wilford Hall Medical Center.

Ashley Villarreal (pictured, left), 14, was taken off life-support equipment after she was declared brain dead from a gunshot wound she suffered to the back of her head late Sunday night.

DEA officials and San Antonio police officials said that agents fired four rounds at a car Villarreal was driving because the vehicle was speeding toward them and they suspected the girl's father, a suspected drug dealer, was in the vehicle trying to get away. Joey Angel Villarreal, who was the subject of surveillance that night, was not in the car with his daughter. He ended up turning himself in to authorities Monday.

"It was no mistake," said Daniel Robles, a family friend who was in the car with the teen. "It was no accident."

Robles said the agents were not wearing rain gear during the surveillance and claimed that they allegedly boxed in Villarreal's car and opened fire.

"These are professionals," Robles said. "There's nothing professional about this."

Law officers declined to respond to Robles' version or to discuss details of the case Tuesday, citing a pending investigation.

Robles, who was with family members when they said they last goodbyes to the teen, said he promised her that his version of the story will come out.

"Ashley's dead. They took her life. Nothing's gonna bring it back," Robles said.

The girl was shot Sunday when Drug Enforcement Administration agents mistook her for her father, Joey Angel Villarreal, a three-time convicted drug offender. Joey Angel Villarreal turned himself in and was charged with cocaine trafficking Monday.
DEA investigators arrived Tuesday to review the shooting and San Antonio police also were investigating. Authorities give this account of the shooting: Plain clothes agents saw a man they thought was Joey Angel Villarreal come out of a house and get into the passenger side of a car.
So they mistake the girl for the suspect and they see a man get into the passenger side who they thought was the suspect, yet they manage to shoot the driver who they originally thought was the suspect instead of the man who got in the passenger side who they thought was the suspect.

I don't know where you live, but here in South Florida, we have an epidemic of people impersonating police officers.

Furthermore, we have the police spokesman on record saying that if an unmarked car try to stop a citizen, the citizen should find a well-lit area with plenty of people around before stopping. Otherwise, the citizen should not stop.

Being blocked in a blind alley, I will probably try to ram my way out of it.

These were DEA not the cops nobody ever calls the DEA except for paid snitches. The gal wasn't likely a druggie she was just a dealer's daughter. And yes I think the DEA is full of crap there story simply isn't possible.

Puleeeeeeeeeeze. If those Jack Booted thugs had ANY history of Drugs or any other illegal activity by either one of the people in that car It would have been in the press WITH the official comments from the JBT.

What I don't trust is a trigger happy, Ninja Suited Thug with a badge looking to grease someone legally. It is happening way too often.

I used to think Wellesley was pretty clean but ive heard things lately. I live in Worcester for the school year im sure its infested I just don't associate with that element.
