Some good ideas there but I don't believe Sheriffs have any power in counties outside of unincorporated areas. In other words, if the Cook County sheriff wants to do anything in Chicago he will not do it without authorization by the Chicago P.D.

He's a COUNTY Sheriff

He's elected - can't be 'fired'...

Police chief's are appointed - they 'rule' at the whim of the commissioners will...

A sheriff has ultimate power in his county: able to run Fed's off as well (although that ain't too wise, for they WILL be back!)
