I remember sitting by myself looking at my little kids back in the 70's and thinking about the stupidity of the Woman's movement that was almost pushing me out the door to go to work! I remember thinking, "good Lord....I want to stay home with my kids and take care of them, but if I do that I will be attacked as being a nobody!" I remember resenting the hell out of people who couldn't see that the kids were going to suffer. I remember resenting the hell out of insurance companies that were driving the prices of medical costs sky high, and attorney's who couldn't care less that their "deep pockets-let someone else carry the burden" attitude was helping destroy our motivation to take responsibility! And I remember being laughed at because I was obstructing the progress of all women by refusing to stand up and fight for my right to be free of the burdens of family! What the hell! We reep what we sit around and watch other's sow. Why? Because we don't go pull the damned plants out while they are small!

I was still a kid in the 70s, but I so remember all the subtle and not so subtle efforts to portray women who chose to stay home and raise their children as not worthy somehow. I thought it was all very unnatural. I have no children, but if I did I would stay home and raise them. I've always thought day-care was cruel, but I know some people have no choice. I remember a commercial for Enjoli perfume which started out, "I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never, ever forget you're a man" or something like that, it was part of that superwomen portrayal which sent the message that women should work outside the home, children or no children.

I have a good friend who got married young, but she never had children and never worked because she didn't have to. Some people gave her a lot of grief over that. She spent a lot of her time on her house, cooking, and taking classes. I feel sorry though for the many women who are put down for not working when they have children. People need to understand that raising children is a very important and time-consuming job!

My memories also. I can remember knowing how women were being suckered. Prices of everything would rise, because there would be more disposable income. Government & businesses keep track of such things, & they only let the little guy have just so much of his earnings.

And I worked in both big & small businesses & knew that most family budgets come to depend on two incomes & the woman is trapped unless the couple makes a big effort to save one of the incomes.
