Apparently he hasn’t read the Bible. Mary and Joseph were ordered by Roman authority to return to their home jurisdiction for census purposes. They were Roman citizens and they were “invited”.

Apparently he hasn’t read the Bible. Mary and Joseph were ordered by Roman authority to return to their home jurisdiction for census purposes. They were Roman citizens and they were “invited”. Small correction: They weren't Roman citizens (as the Apostle Paul was), they were subjects. They did not have full rights as citizens. For example Jesus was put to death by crucifixion because he did not have citizenship, while Paul was allowed to be beheaded because he was a citizen. Your point remains, however. Even as mere subjects, they still were not crossing illegally from one country to another.
