Parents of a teenage ballerina who weighed just 60 pounds — who forged her birth certificate to make her seem appropriately sized for her age — have been sentenced to prison, even as their daughter pleaded with the judge to drop all charges.
The parents were sentenced last month in Perth’s District Court of Western Australia for neglecting their 17-year-old daughter, who was left with brittle hair, flaking skin and was so malnourished she was at risk of cardiac arrest or death, CNN reported. They parents, however, claim this was all a result of their daughter choosing to be vegan — and being a picky eater.
Judge Linda Black said it was clear the parents loved their daughter, who is now 20 years old, but still blamed them for trying to keep her a “little girl” far too long.

That’s terrible what was done to her.
What abut the ballet teacher?
Loved her? The judge is a nut just like the parents and the girl. Doesn’t everyone was to see a malnourished, brittle-haired, flaking-skin ballerina?
That’s disgusting.
“What abut the ballet teacher?”
And teachers, school administrators, relatives, family friends, neighbors, etc?
We have dear friends whose daughter was seriously bulimic and in danger of dying. No matter how much weight she lost, she thought she was fat. It took lots of therapy to save her life. I worry that it is like addiction and the problem could return at any time, especially if anything traumatic happens in her life.
If the teacher knew that it wasn’t something natural, she should have spoke up and told the parents to make the daughter healthy.
I hate all forms of athletics. where the participant has to be decidedly unhealthy in order to be able to compete. We should have the highest morals in our activities.
They clearly brainwashed her, too.
Malnutrition in childhood can lead to permanent brain damage.
Isolated except for the ballet class. Home schooled.
It might have been the ballet teacher or a parent from the class who reported that she was starved.
“Isolated except for the ballet class. Home schooled.”
Thanks. I just scanned the first paragraph.
Still, no neighbors, no church, no nothing? Nobody noticed? Maybe they live deep in the Australian outback?
“No matter how much weight she lost, she thought she was fat. It took lots of therapy to save her life.”
One of my BFFs went through that with her daughter. She mortgaged her home for $90K to send her to an institution that DID manage to get her straightened out.
10 years in now, the daughter keeps a slim, but healthy weight and is a successful shop owner.

I’m sick of incompetent judges who refuse to recognize abuse, therefore allowing it to go on.
I’m so glad for your dear friend’s efforts and success saving her daughter’s life! That’s what our friends went through. It is such an insidious problem, nearly as bad as dealing with a drug addict family member.
Ballet requires muscle tone... she has none.

And who call sentimentality, narcissitic projection, or obsession “love.”
I was in a school guidance counselor’s office. She had a little sign in the wall that read: “Reminder- No parent wants to harm their child.”
She, like so many incompetent professionals in the system who are failing children, are in total denial that there actually exists sick parents who emotionally/ psychologically abuse their children and destroy them. In my family’s case the mother got revenge against the father by ruining the children’s lives. No professional could believe a mother would harm her children. They all failed those children.

And yes, you hit the nail on the head.
Exactly.
Totally understand. The child believes they are worthless after being treated as if their own mother doesn’t love them.
