From Hawaii to New York, they’ve done the rest of us a wonderful service by attracting the mentally ill out of the other states.

It was a bit before my time, but there were documentaries (ex. Titticut follies) of how horrible mental institutions were in the 1960s. That spurred the effort to close them down and throw the crazy people into alleys. At this point, sensible people should look back at the “horrible” mental institutions of the 1960s and say that they were a lot better than the drug ravaged streets of the 21st century. Mental institutions should not be luxurious and no one should aspire to the “easy life” of the nuthouse. They can be bad places. But they can easily be better than being homeless in an alley.
Liberals want perfection. That’s why they closed state mental hospitals. They think the situation on Venice Beach is an improvement. Liberals get everything wrong.
