Not sure about the UK but in USA there are pedo stings all the time with no “real” victim. Chris Hansen's entire career was built around that. They apparently caught a lot of real creeps. That's a "good thing".
However ... NONE of them were caught trying to engage in sex (or buggery) with an actual minor. The bait actors were all adults. Criminal prosecution of them comes off as a bit unethical. Chris Hansen's original show ended when the pedo they caught turned out to be an assistant district attorney ...
