McConnell celebrates milestone as Senate Dems retain power

Democrats are again claiming the Senate majority, but much of the chamber’s focus Tuesday is on the top Republican as Mitch McConnell becomes the longest serving Senate leader in history.

McConnell, 80, surpassed Montana Sen. Mike Mansfield’s record of 16 years as party leader when the Senate convened midday to begin the new Congress. While the Kentucky Republican has acknowledged he would prefer his own party to be taking charge — “the majority is better,” he says frequently — he celebrated his own personal milestone with a Senate floor speech looking back at party leaders and their different styles over the decades.

And Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., cemented a legacy of his own after winning a second term as leader and also being sworn in as the longest-serving senator from New York. Democrats will go into the new Congress with a 51-49 majority, with newly Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema receiving her committee assignments from Democrats. …

Not to sound pessimistic but Mitch the Turtle may be aiming for this record:

When Jonathan the giant tortoise was born, Queen Victoria was just a teenager.
Perhaps the most famous resident of St. Helena, one of the world’s remotest islands, Jonathan is this year celebrating his 190th birthday — making him the oldest tortoise ever to live.
According to Guinness World Records, Jonathan is the oldest-ever chelonian — a category that encompasses all turtles, terrapins and tortoises.*
Thought to have been born around 1832, Jonathan was gifted to Sir William Grey-Wilson — who later became governor — arriving in St. Helena from the Seychelles in 1882. A further 31 governors have come and gone in the decades since.
In truth, Jonathan could even be 200 years old as nobody knows his exact age, according to Matt Joshua, head of tourism on St. Helena.

* Implies this includes Mitch.😪

🤣🤣🤣. We do need a Con Con now, though. My Ammendment would be that the people or The State Legeslature can force a recall Election for Senator.

He’ll be 81 next month.
Time for him to go.

Doesn’t Ky have a Rat governor?
If McConnell retires can he appoint himself or another Rat?

Stop picking candidates from New Jersey to run for Senate in Pennsylvania. Stop running candidates who have interesting time explaining their point. stop picking candidates who look like they’re 18 years old and have no experience. We do those three things and we have a good shot at getting majority.
