New York State issued a warning for residents to avoid shoveling snow in the upstate area, which has been pelted by 6-feet of snow, after two people died of heart attacks and a third died when their plow crashed.
As the blizzard continued into Saturday morning, with a further 4 feet predicted to hit by Monday, the NYS Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services urged residents to avoid overexerting themselves when shoveling snow.
'Take it slow!... don't work to the point of exhaustion,' the department warned following the deaths of two unidentified Erie County men who suffered heart attacks in separate incidents while trying to shovel the snow away.
The warning was echoed by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, who tweeted: 'Please continue to avoid shoveling this very heavy, wet snow - and use caution and avoid overexertion if you must shovel today.'
The Starke County Sheriff's Department confirmed that a third person had died on Friday, a snowplow driver from Etna Green, Indiana, whose vehicle slid off the pavement and rolled over, WSBT reports.
The hardest hit cities include those in Erie County, like Buffalo and Hamburg, where the snowfall has been amplified due to the effects of Lake Erie, which also created lightning and thunder.
One Hamburg resident showed off the sheer magnitude of the snowfall when they opened their garage door, revealing snow as high as 6 feet with even larger hills of snow in their front yard.

That depends on where you are on the LGBTQWERTY spectrum. Your governor will provide advice based on best practices as determined from research by experts and consultants.
That heavy snow shoveling for men beginning around 40 or so, has been a well known widow maker forever. That NY feels obliged to have to tell people, is a measure of how ignorant the populace has become— or how stupid the government thinks they are.

I’m predicting this year we will see more, and it will be both men and women going as young as in their 20’s. Excess deaths are up already and it’s connected with strenuous activity. They can’t figure out what it might be.
I had a friend, then over 65, who died while running his snow blower for a neighbor so the neighbor wouldn’t shovel.
Didn’t Nancy Pelosi say that illegal aliens need to stay in this country so they can pick our crops, and shovel our driveways?
shoveling the apron after it’s been plowed in six feet deep from a two foot snow...

After a few hundred years of shoveling snow in the NE then I am pretty sure the word is already out about over exerting. This is NYS officials trying to make themselves look good.
Just cleared my 100-ft driveway. Except for where the cars are parked. Taking a break. A cup of coffee. Cars will be next.
Folks, we Western New Yorkers have been through this. We’ll be okay.
“ Old men should not be shoveling snow. Especially out of shape old men. I’m 60 ”
Yes we should be.
Gotta show those snotty young 45 year old brats how it’s done
Here are ones I like: “Knives are sharp.” “Fire is hot” “Do not shoot yourself in the head. It will make a bloody mess.”
Glad you figured all this out for us. We had no idea.

Old bull and young bull on the top of the hill watching the farmer bring in the new heifers.
Young bull says, “lets run down the hill and breed a few of them.”
Old Bull says, “Lets walk down the hill and breed them all.”
My grandfather died of a massive heart attack shoveling snow in Weymouth, Massachusetts when he was only 44 years old. My mother was only 13 at the time, the oldest of 6 children. She found him in the driveway.
He was a Liberator Bomber pilot in the Pacific during WWII. He survived being shot down and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also smoked 2 to 3 packs a day.
War hero to dead shoveling snow. Tragic
to this day, i refuse to “make my bed”, you know, because it just gets unmade every damn night anyway ... haha ... OTOH, my brother always refused to brush his teeth and eventually lost them all to neglect ... parents are right about some stuff - you just have to figure out what’s important and what’s not ...
