If you're feeling ruffled by recent reports that turkey prices are on the rise, don't panic. There's no need to start hoarding turkeys.
"We're not seeing a shortage of supply," said Ben Del Coro, vice president of sales and marketing at Fossil Farms, a New Jersey-based purveyor of sustainable and all-natural meats and farm-raised game.
Unlike last holiday season, where supply chain and labor issues caused ingredient shortages, there should be enough frozen turkeys to go around for Thanksgiving. However, avian flu outbreaks and inflation's impact on fuel, feed and labor costs have contributed to higher prices for turkeys.

Aldi has Butterball turkeys for $1.07/lb, here in Oklahoma. I’ll buy any other brand that’s at a decent price; I think Butterball turkeys are practically tasteless. Probably should raise my own in the back yard. Shouldn’t be much trouble to raise just one.
Love succotash.
I paid $1.79/lb for a 25 lb butterball whole Turkey. Might be a little cheaper somewhere else if you can get one that big. We’re expecting 10 people for thanksgiving dinner. You can get a fresh turkey for $3.50/lb at the butcher’s.
German turkeys?
My niece is grilling filet this year. Not filet of turkey either. I was happy because am not a Turkey lover.
In the Smoky Backroom forum, on a thread titled Turkey Prices Are Flying Higher This Year — Here's How to Have an Affordable Thanksgiving, 17th Miss Regt wrote: You can afford cough drops? I’m jealous. After that last fill up, all we can afford is a baggie of floor sweepings.
Floor sweepings?! Where did you find those? I can't find those anywhere!
Don't get me wrong, in my house we're doing just fine now that we found a pile of sawdust left behind by termites.
Biden Thanksgiving is back to pork and beans for many people.
Filet mignon?
Invited or not, I’m coming to your place!
Ok, I read the thread but I can’t for the life of me figure out why this is in the Smoky Back Room?
Yep, I ain’t going to complain. All I have to do is show up and eat it.
“If the people just bought electric turkeys...”
Chicken of the tree. Trad sides and some fresh caught fish. Maybe I can work up an authentically traditional Brunswick county stew.
They have been slaying fish off of the piers up and down the OBX this fall. Some of the local mongers ought to be in good shape too.
Open a can and mail it... but the postal service has enough headaches as the season cranks up.

Wear safety glasses. Not kidding. There’s a few custom turkey razors around here and I know three or four, they all wear safety glasses. I’m told turkeys can pluck out an eyeball in a second especially if you’re bent over or working the feed or whatever.
Turkeys are teally good fresh but kind of pricey. I haven’t been afield in over 3 years due to some back-to-back injuries but I think in ‘23 I’ll be out for turkey.
I don’t mind turkey the day it’s cooked, I will have a bit, but it just doesn’t taste right to me the next day.
The real food is the sides and pies anyway.
