Richmond residents ‘gobsmacked’ after town employee lowers fluoride levels with no oversight

Residents are concerned a town employee arbitrarily lowered the fluoride level in Richmond’s drinking water below recommended standards based on his personal beliefs.

Town Manager Josh Arneson said he was notified by state officials in June that the town’s fluoride levels have been near 0.3 milligrams per liter for the past three years — less than half of the 0.7 milligrams per liter recommended by the Vermont Department of Health and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“I am concerned about the lack of transparency about the fluoride levels being lower than those set by the Community Water Fluoridation program, which Richmond is listed as participating in,” Arneson said in an email.

A Richmond resident for two years and a retired doctor, Allen Knowles said he was “fairly gobsmacked” to learn the fluoride level was inadequate by state standards and manipulated by an individual without town approval.

“I personally think it’s very concerning,” he said.

He and his daughter’s family are worried about the health of her 8-month-old who “is developing her permanent teeth up in her gums as we speak,” he said.

“We thought that she had been getting fluoridated water since birth and she has not,” he said. “Well, she has not been getting a therapeutic dose. She has been getting an inadequate dose.”

Paul Parker, a pediatrician in Richmond, said the science supporting fluoridation is clear. He was upset to learn he has been treating patients under the belief that they are receiving the appropriate amount of fluoride and had not been prescribing supplements.

“Why do we fluoridate water in Richmond? Is there a mandate? Is this Kendall’s or another body’s decision?” he asked commissioners at last week’s meeting.

Oral disease: ‘A silent epidemic’

National survey data indicates that prevention of tooth decay can be maintained at the recommended level of 0.7 milligrams of fluoride per liter of drinking water. Basically, the naturally occurring mineral helps “to prevent tooth decay in children and adults while reducing the risk for children to develop dental fluorosis,” according to the CDC.

Shameful that this man arbitrarily decided to lower the amount of toxic nuclear waste in the water.

All I know is that when I moved to city that never fluorinated their water, I went to the dentist and the first thing he asked me as he examined my teeth was where was I from.

I always attributed it to genetics as my entire family have really good teeth with minimal effort. My daughter has great teeth as well. Her mother, who was born and raised there had teeth like a Brit.

Um in the last town I lived in - fairly large and diverse- we didn’t have fluoride in the water. When our kid got to be about three the doctor simply gave him a chewable tablet and then he had a yearly treatment at the dentist. It’s not all that vital.

Can you name a vaccine that hasn’t injured some?

You might not be crazy but your post 2 is.

You think government bureaucrats can unilaterally at will, stealthily, make decisions and have them implemented as if by divine right?

Criminal bastard. Endangering the health of children as well as adults, for no reason. Stupidity like this should be a crime.

Your grandmother’s well water probably had abundant naturally occurring fluoride. Moron. How do you think intelligent people figured out that flouride is good for teeth?

I admire his chutzpah but he might have been better off just trying to educate people. Fluoride is a poison that our compromised and corrupt government allowed for several speculative reasons, but it is a poison.

I’ve been using a Berkey Water Filter for at least 12 years - a second set of white filters removes lots of things, including fluoride. Also, I’ve recently given up buying expensive, non-fluoridated toothpaste and started making my own. It’s fabulous!

So many people just won’t accept that the FDA is not our friend, and so many things we feed to ourselves and our families make us sick, which keeps Big Pharma in plenty of green.

Anyway, hopefully, the fools who are shocked that they have been denied government sanctioned toxins will take this opportunity to examine the reasons and the problems associated with fluoride, and learn a few things.

This guy was fighting the bureaucrats. At least he was trying to do something good.

Why is there fluoride in the water in the first place? Studies show that fluoridation does not improve dental health. Studies also show that it is not healthy, and is a poison. WE ARE PAYING FOR THIS in two different ways, to put it in, and for a water filter to remove it from our tap water.

Fluorosis is caused by too much fluoride. My step son had white spots on his teeth from it. Humans, and especially children should not be using fluoridated toothpaste or drinking the stuff in water.

If there were a function on FR to block replies and posts from people, you would be #1 on my list.

Check your safe drinking water report from the EPA and see if your government meets the requirement. I bet they don’t. You can check it online without going through a fake journalist or liberal interpretation.

People should be at least happy that he LOWERED it.

But if someone can lower it, what’s to stop someone from raising it without anyone’s permission or knowledge?

Actually, FR would be a better place without paid shot shills pushing Deep State agenda on everyone.

You are a liar and a fraud, and FR would be better off without your falsehoods.
