Oswald had to die. Some speculate Tippett was killed because it was assumed Dallas PD would not let a fleeing cop killer survive resisting arrest. Oswald was ID'd at the scene of Tippett's killing because his (Oswald's) wallet had been conveniently left there, even though Oswald was in possession of his (apparently other) wallet when apprehended at the theater.
