In 2017, we first wrote about the Chinese startup Unitree Robotics, which had the goal of “making legged robots as popular and affordable as smartphones and drones.”
Relative to the cost of other quadrupedal robots (like Boston Dynamics’ $74,000 Spot), Unitree’s quadrupeds are very affordable, with their A1 costing under $10,000 when it became available in 2020.
This hasn’t quite reached the point of consumer electronics that Unitree is aiming for, but they’ve just gotten a lot closer: now available is the Unitree Go1, a totally decent looking small size quadruped that can be yours for an astonishingly low $2700.
Not bad, right? Speedy, good looking gait, robust, and a nifty combination of autonomous human following and obstacle avoidance. As with any product video, it’s important to take everything you see here with a grain of salt, but based on Unitree’s track record we have no particular reason to suspect that there’s much in the way of video trickery going on.
Skynet Termination bots coming soon !
hahaha, I’ve seen it, that is WELL worth watching...:)
Damn!
The 1950s: “We should talk in person. Who knows who is listening?”
The 2010s: “Hey espionage device, confirm dinner reservations?”
The book When the Word Is Given by Louis E. Lomax (1969) said the plan of the American black Muslim movement was to give a “word” to signal all the black maids, butlers, chauffeurs, nannies and others to kill the whites near them, including children. This would begin the black takeover of America.
When I read it my objection was comparatively very few white people actually had servants——even today with the increase in wealth of the middle and upper class. I did not argue with the slaughter premise.
So.....
Robot dogs made in China. Nice doggies. Until the word is given (in Chinese) to tear the humans to pieces.
But are they edible?
turn on the captions for a hoot!
It’s ugly, but cheaper than some purebred puppies!
..and it won’t chew up my shoes.
Did you notice the Tic-Tac hovering overhead?
That video is fake. Sorry.
Really looks like a Boston Dynamics knock off.
Why develop anything yourself, when you can just steal it.
You know that’s a spoof of the real Boston Dynamics robots, right?
Obviously not possible yet, but sooner than lenr
The guys at IEEE aren’t fools though.
And they did softly insinuate that the chinese company COULD fake it, but likely have not.
That said, this little sucker is useless. The demo guy had to jam a water bottle under the handle to drive home that “It could be... useful... I guess..”
But yeah, China will kick off the robot apocalypse.
Cheap knockoff product, using stolen Intellectual property - its what China does best.
Personal and household robots are coming this decade.
This is a good one too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn3KWM1kuAw
What is the point of this? For people that cant stand real animals? Unless it has optional pitbull mode or an attachable .30 mm gun, its rather worthless.
