President Trump isnt the first American leader to turn his back on foreign friends who were counting on U.S. assistance: President Dwight D. Eisenhower did it in Hungary in 1956; President John F. Kennedy in Cuba in 1961; and President Gerald Ford in South Vietnam in 1975. But no previous chief executive has ever sold out the United States allies as nonchalantly and unnecessarily as Trump has done with the Syrian Kurds.
At least with Eisenhower, Kennedy and Ford, there was a good reason they failed to come to the aid of freedom fighters: Doing so would have embroiled the United States in costly conflicts. Trump and his apologists would like to pretend thats also the case today that Trump pulled U.S. troops out of northern Syria to avoid a war with Turkey. But there is scant chance that Turkish troops would have invaded northern Syria if U.S. troops were standing in the way. That is why President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked Trump to move the U.S. forces and Trump, for reasons that remain mysterious, obliged. (Trump himself admitted in 2015 that I have a little conflict of interest because of two Trump Towers in Istanbul.)
The consequences of the American pullout are proving to be every bit as catastrophic as most observers and Trumps own aides had feared. On Face the Nation on Sunday, Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper said that ever since coming to office about two months ago, he had been urging the Turks not to invade Syria. We cited all the reasons that are now playing out, he said. The biggest being the likely release of ISIS fighters from these camps and prisons, not just that we see a humanitarian crisis emerging.

Then Have COngress Declare War on Someone...
Mostly at the behest of the Soviets, if so. And it probably was.
But dont forget, China and Vietnam had centuries of animosity, and fought a nasty border war in 1979, just 4 years after the fall of Saigon. So Im not sure how full-on Chinese support was.

<< Are you happy now, Trump supporters? >>
Not quite just yet, Max. But ask me again when ALL our troops from all over the world come home, foreign aid in the form of taxpayer cash is abolished, the border Wall is complete, tens of millions of illegals are deported, the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act is rescinded, and the Swamp is drained...for bare bones starters.
Max and his ilk are dinosaurs, and they dont yet know it.
No doubt. This was a transparent attempt to sucker the president into a full scale middle east war, and conveniently saddle him with a broken campaign promise.
> “simply the PR firms and lobbyists of the weapons makers”
Not quite but close.
The DC racket operates this way:
1. Contribute to political and legislators and candidates for legislation that earmarks funds for specific purposes.
2. Targeted legislators introduce, amend, or renew budgetary items for the mega donor.
3. Contribute again to the legislators that do the bidding of the mega donor.
Rinse and Repeat.
It’s bribery, pure and simple.
Groups and groups of press and think tank individuals receive grants and honoraria to promote policies that perpetuate the above racket. It’s a cottage industry for them, a comfortable one.
Planned Parenthood works in the exact same way.
Hundreds of other ‘causes’ and policies work in the exact same way.
It’s the business model of DC and it generates enormous cashflow.
Trump is interrupting their food chain.
The thing to ask them is why should Americans whose military have some of the most awful weapons known in history, weapons capable of being guided from Space to a target anywhere on the globe, why should their sons and daughters be caught up in a tribal conflict that has gone on for centuries?
The answer is the DC cashflow described above depends on having a physical American human presence on foreign soil to keep local paramilitary and regime elements on the payroll and to keep legislators on the payroll as well.
People like Max Boot need things to continue just as they always have in order to pay their bills and maintain their position. They can’t survive outside the DC Ecosystem they found a niche in. Senior federal employees are no different.
This nation is tired of War, we have been in some kind of perpetual war somewhere since Post W.W. II, it never ends.
We have allowed the Deep State and Military Industrial Complex to dictate ongoing war under the auspices of Police Actions all over the world just to feed the war machine.
George H.W. Bush led us in to a quagmire in the ME under false pretenses and it escalated from there to where we are now.
The Left is just as pro war as the right and it's Neocons.
The real Hypocrisy is if Trump had a D after his name the left would be all for leaving Syria, but they and the right feel we have to stay and protect the Kurds.
But for how long are we supposed to the there, Forever?
The ME has been in turmoil and war for thousands of years, long before we got there and it will be after we leave.
We need to focus on our own country, if we had the $8 Trillion we spent in the last 18 years in the ME we could have rebuilt our infrastructure and solved a lot of other problems.
Here, I’ll translate: “Get us into another unwinnable war so we can attack Trump for that reason!”
Translation complete.
Many on FR saw this Kurd nonsense for what it was....
A setup designed to fracture Trump support.
The GOP-e ate it hook, line and sinker.
Someone should help Max Boot out with the nuclear wedgie that he got from Trump...
I could care less about the people over there that have been fighting for 300 years.
My gut reaction is that the Kurds were probably using us.
They’re a NATO natio (Turkey), let NATO deal with it.
Bump
Happy?
I’M ECSTATIC, MAX!
And hey, f*** you, Max!
There is no such thing as a, "Never Trump conservative". They're frauds and always have been.
Let’s see:
- No more stupid foreign wars that are not in America’s national interest
- withdrew from disastrous Obama Agreements abroad
- Finally stood up to the Yurps and called them out on their freeloading.
- Finally stood up to China and started slapping tariffs on them for their rampant cheating
- Economy booming
- Wall being built
- My income up by 1/3rd since he came to office
Yeah. I’m damn happy.
No feelings of guilt here. Trump did the right thing.
Whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout, Max? I been happy with Trump since his Presidency began to bear fruit, no later than February 2017.
It’s the ones attacking him, some pretending to be on my side, that tick me off.
That means YOU, Max!
Yes, that difference is very important. But few atheists want to see that difference.
Neocons like Max Boot profit when America is in constant war mode. These buffoons have dragged America into endless quagmires around the globe, especially in the god forsaken Middle East, with thousands of American troops dead and trillions spent with no end in sight. It’s been neocon Republicanism that’s dragged the GOP down for decades.
