Guns have been a problem for the left for many years. Our country has a long history with firearms, and much of it has been troubling. We have had many mass shootings, and the NRA has pushed guns down our throats for years. They wanted you to believe that President Clinton and President Obama were going to take your weapons away as part of some vast conspiracy to round people up and put them in communist Muslim reeducation camps.
Things have changed. We now have a president who is friendly with the authoritarian regime in Russia, and who winks at white nationalists. Attacks and threats against Muslims and Jews have exploded in the last year. Indian workers have been shot at bars, a Sikh man was shot in his driveway, and Nazis feel safe to walk the streets again.
I know how some liberals feel about guns. This is a subject that has been dominated by the far-right for years, but it is time that we start taking it back for ourselves, because there are people out there who have gone beyond fantasizing about killing folks, and actually doing it.
I own a number of weapons. I grew up using guns and I can empty a full magazine of .40 caliber hollow point rounds from my concealed carry pistol into a target with pretty decent accuracy. At the same time, I have been a supporter of gun control laws – but we’re not going to see any progress made as long as Republicans control our government.
The far-right believes that liberals don’t carry guns, that we’re afraid of guns, and we want to ban them all. There are certainly some people on the left who do feel that way, but that’s a stereotype the conservative media loves to perpetuate to rile up their followers.
The difference between right-wing nut jobs with guns and liberals with guns, is that we liberals who pack heat don’t fantasize about overthrowing the government or holding off a SWAT team with an AR-15. We own weapons for self-defense and sport, not because we’re paranoid fanatics with penis compensation issues.
If you do decide to purchase a weapon and you haven’t used one before, take some training classes first. Be sure to know the laws in your local area, and understand the legal ramifications of using deadly force if you’re ever put into that situation.
Next, it’s time to decide what kind of firearm you need. For home defense, the best option is probably a pump shotgun loaded with buckshot. Unlike a high-velocity round from an assault rifle, buckshot isn’t likely to punch through multiple walls. If you plan on going the concealed carry route, the handgun you choose should be based on the size of your frame. The point of carrying concealed is that nobody should know that you have a gun, until you have to use it. Open carry is a very bad idea, even though it is legal in many states.
The far-right has been emboldened by a Trump presidency, and liberals buying guns will make them think twice. If you’re concerned about putting money in the gun industry’s pockets, there is always the option of buying a used weapon, just make sure you purchase it from a legitimate dealer.
Shouldn’t these liberals be subject to a check - like a reality check to make sure they are really mentally able to handle a gun?
The Second Amendment is for everyone. Maybe these idiots might now realize that they’ve been getting screwed over by the gun control fanatics the same as everyone else.
We conservatives who carry concealed firearms don't call it "packing heat". It sounds idiotic. I bet you really originally wrote about emptying your clip, but someone who knows better corrected it for you.
One of the best things that happened to gun collectors was the fall of the Soviet Union. That started communism’s “going out of business sale”, which is still going on today in some ways. Because of that I can buy Russian and Com-Bloc surplus firearms dirt cheap. I have two rifles and a handgun and I still haven’t spent $700 yet. You could spend that on a new semiauto easily. Now I buy these guns because I have an interest in the history wrapped up in them as well. But the fact that I can “arm up” and still have money for ammo is a nice plus. I have close to 30 years experience with firearms. Compared to some here I’m still a newbie. Liberals are late to the game when it comes to firearms. You can’t cram a lifetime of firearms knowledge and experience into a short period of time. Also a lot of conservatives have been military or police or both. You can’t say that for liberals. Liberals need to calm down and rethink this issue before they come to grief.

Thank you for writing this small commentary. I, too, want the facts about what has been alleged of any conservatives who have killed anybody in the past years. We just don’t do that until we have a situation where we, personally, are threatened or the lives of those we love and care for are threatened. So, do NOT make allegations unless corroborated by facts.
Actually Manny, the difference is really that liberals (leftists) fantasize about a government that they can run, allowing them to terrorize, and murder, anyone who doesn't agree with them. And leftists are indeed paranoid fanatics .... with constant penis desire issues.
And all the accusations are thrown by people with...you guessed it...penis compensation issues. Either due to not having one, not being able to get one, or having one that is shrunken to the size of a three-year-old boy from consuming too many soy lattes.
