Yes, Ted Cruz Did Support ‘Amnesty’ for Illegal Immigrants
Bold ^ | Matthew Sheffield

Posted on 12/17/2015 7:03:30 PM PST by RatherBiased.com

The Cruz presidential campaign is now claiming that the senator's attempted amendments and statements were only designed to be so-called "poison pills," a legislative trick designed to get supporters of a bill to vote against it. That was also the line Cruz took in an interview yesterday with Fox News anchor Bret Baier.

But that does not square with the fact that weeks after the legislation failed in the House, Cruz was still talking up how he wanted to grant permanent resident status to illegal immigrants in an interview with the Texas Tribune in September:

Immigration-reform legislation from the Senate's so-called Gang of Eight passed that chamber in June and includes a 13-year path to citizenship. Cruz pushed unsuccessfully for amendments that would have, among other things, eliminated the citizenship component.

Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.

"The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight," he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

Cruz said recent polling indicated that people outside Washington support some reform, including legal status without citizenship. He said he was against naturalization because it rewarded lawbreakers and was unfair to legal immigrants. It also perpetuates illegal crossings, he added.

Besides barring citizenship while instituting some level of legalization for those here already, Cruz has proposed increasing the number of green cards awarded annually, to 1.35 million from 675,000.

My guess is, you’re terrified of Cruz.

It’s either that or you are so blinded by Trump you are willing to look past everything we all keep pointing out time after time. The man is a loose canon whom has a history of being a democrat. Sorry, but it’s true. He financially supports them, was registered as one, and even as recently as this past debate persued big government, liberty taking ideas.

Why take such a “yuge” risk when we have a rock solid conservative within striking distance? Cruz can win. Why not back him?

There is no way, NO way any negatives he has outweigh the negatives Trump carries... It’s just not possible.

So either pull your head out of the sand or be prepared to say goodbye to the America we love, because a vote for an egotistical narcissist is probably one of the worst votes you could possibly do.

I care. I will not vote for another ignoramus who doesn’t have the least knowledge of how to do the job, and seems to have no interest in learning. Rubio and Cruz may fight now, but only one of them will win the nomination, and I expect that when that happens, the loser will fall in line, and the bickering will stop.

Bothe Rubio and Cruz showed the basic knowledge to be president, I much prefer Cruz , but I acknowledge I don’t always get what I want.

Cruz or lose. America.

Thanks for the lecture. You seem to have it all wrong, but I expect that. I’m not ‘afraid’ of Cruz, I want a straight answer that I have to see, read or hear.

For clarity, I have NO fear of Trump, sorry that you do.

Trite games, this is why the Cruz supporters here rub me so wrong. It has an effect I didn’t expect - I trust Cruz less now than I did 2 months ago.

“Trump is a lifelong liberal who has supported every far left position out there and still supports gay marriage and affirmative action as borne out by his recent attacks on Scalia. He only “converted” to some conservative causes just in time to run for president.”

Oh boy, you got me! I stand corrected, you stated as I cite above, a lifelong ‘liberal’ - shoot, I didn’t realize liberal was different than democrat! You win!

Thanks for the name calling, it’s so adult and truly inspires me to learn more from you :) Sigh

Of course liberal is not the same as Democrat. Almost all Democrats are liberals, but not all liberals are Democrats. We have plenty of liberals in the Republican Party too, hence the term RINO, Republicans In Name Only.

‘On Cruz’ official Senate web site-——Cruz posted on his Immigration page what he apparently considers to be his accomplishments:

CRUZ WEB SITE: In 2013, Sen. Cruz proposed amendments to the “Gang of 8” bill that would strengthen border security, expand green card opportunities, increase high-skilled “H1B” visas, prevent illegal aliens from receiving welfare benefits, and enforce the rule of law.

Thus the confusion is perpetuated..... even after the bill died, when he had the opportunity, he did not identify his amendment as a “poison pill.”

Cruz glaringly omitted his current stance....that he was bluffing.’

Well well. Imagine that.

Actually no, it doesn’t perpetuate the confusion. It is ccrystal clear. It lists all the great things the amendment would have done if passed. Nothing, as noted, about exposing anyone or forcing anyone to acknowledge amnesty. Just a rundown of how wonderful comprehensive immigration reform would have been if Cruz’ amazing amendment would have passed.

And just when I had actually bought into Cruz’ twisted, tortuous, convoluted explanation of why he REALLY proposed this amendment.

I won’t make that mistake again.

Cruz has a good ant-Establishment act going on. But he is Ivy League lawyer politician all they way. The “Maverick” thing is a nice touch.

It appears that any national affairs knowledge he might have received didn’t stick. On this topic, he has shown himself dumb as a box of rocks.

The Supreme Court Medellin decision is one of the reasons the Establishment GOPe does not like Cruz.
Cruz was right on that, and Bush was wrong.

Could it be any worse than “bringing them out of the shadows” and the proverbial “pathway” to legal status proposed by Cruz?

Still waiting for the example from anywhere, where Cruz proposes consequences that “utter” the word “deportation” for all law breaker invaders into our country.

Rewards for invaders abound everywhere, dressed up as justice.

Have you bothered to actually read Sen. Cruz’ written immigration plan? I know it’s rather long, and very detailed, with a minimum of boastful rhetoric, but here it is.

https://www.tedcruz.org/cruz-immigration-plan/

If you look, you’ll find one detail among nany,

“Enforce the law: Restore our commitment to to enforcement and public safety and the rule of law by rededicating DHS to fully enforcing the law, including through deportations and returns. During the first five years of the Obama administration, President Obama removed or returned only 3.8 million illegal entrants. That is a fraction of the removals and returns of during of the previous five years, and a fraction of what we could accomplish if we actually had a president who actually forced DHS to do its job and removed politics from an agency charged with law enforcement. As president, I would do just that.”

I especially appreciate this, and the link (BFL), but where does Cruz apply deportation to the hordes of invaders, young and old alike, who broke through our sovereign border and flouted immigration laws on the books?

To mention “deportation” in the quote from the Cruz plan you supplied in your comment, for example, does not define the word “all illegal aliens” anywhere, as does TRUMP.

These people wanting it both ways ALWAYS leave deportation on the table for ONLY those invaders who have been caught committing a crime after settling in and roaming the place, and NEVER include running the whole kit and caboodle back where they came from.

Instead, for those invaders who now pick the lettuce and roof the houses, but have no criminal record, these are rewarded with our schools, hospitals, food stamps, health care and will be waggled with a DEMOCRAT voter card eventually, and a path to come out of the shadows, get a green card for “legal status”.

THAT is what Cruz has angled for and continues to angle for, right along with the McConnell establishment TPP crowd.

TRUMP is for no rewards. Period.

TRUMP is for no paddy cakes with them offering “legal status”.

They deserve the same treatment as the sovereign country of Mexico would swiftly deliver American citizens invading their territory, breaking their border and international law.

Case in point, the Marine. Imprisoned for nearly one year in a nasty Mexican prison for missing a turn-around.

Let Cruz get plain and specific and honest and deadly serious, and I promise to take him seriously.

The same with the dang HB1 Visa favor he offered in his amendment, which TRIPLED the number handed out from 65,000 to 325,000.

How stupid are we to require no explanation from him that is plain, specific and honest on that issue?

His generalities and what he skips over are costing this nation already, in its sovereignty.

We are looking like South America on speed, while all these other candidates are ducking cover by yakking it up on policy and process. It’s all WEEDS.

I’m not just concerned, I am outraged at the shallow treatment we are satisfying ourselves with.

TRUMP solves my problem. I know his intentions. I trust him to not only act, but to give ‘em hell getting it done.

Only TRUMP. There is no other.

Did you read the link? The part where he says the law must be enforced? What law do you think he’s talking abou?

In fact, his intention is to TIGHTEN the law. Forty percent of illegals are folks who came here LEGALLY, but overstated their visa. Sen. Cruz points out that this isn’t actually against American law. He proposes to make a first offense a misdemeanor and a second offense a FELONY. So, he’s going to take folks who shouldn’t be here and pass NEWSPAPERS laws to make their actions illegal. And as he says, the law must be enforced.

I think that perhaps you didn’t read the kink.
