LOUISVILLE, Miss. â In single strokes after the massacre of nine black churchgoers in Charleston in June, Confederate battle flags were taken from statehouse grounds in South Carolina and Alabama, pulled from shelves at major retailers like Walmart and declared unwelcome, if to (limited effect), at Nascar races.
What happened so swiftly elsewhere is not so simple in Mississippi. The Confederate battle flag is not simply flying in one hotly disputed spot at the State Capitol but occupying the upper left corner of the state flag, which has been flying since 1894. (And as recently as 2001), Mississippians voted by a nearly two-to-one ratio to keep it. Recent ( polling) suggests the majority have not changed their minds.

Sorry........I didn't realize I was arguing with an 8 year old.
You’re “arguing” with yourself moron. And giving yourself too much credit. Quit while you’re behind fool.
Was it something I said that makes you like and respect slave owners?
“You’ve never once gave any pride in being an America, it’s a Southerner you seem most proud to be.” (sic)
In this back and forth, let’s all keep in mind that it was a Southerner, Thomas Jefferson, that wrote the Declaration of Independence.
It was a Southerner, James Madison, who wrote the Constitution.
It was a Southerner, George Mason, that wrote the Bill of Rights.
It was a Southerner, Patrick Henry, that mobilized the colonies with his famous speech.
It was a Southerner, George Washington, that became the Father of Our Country.
No matter how anyone feels about Lincoln’s War, I think we can all agree it was Southerners (with the help of some Northerners) that created America.
And Southerners who launched the bloodiest war in our history. So really you should be calling it Davis's War.
John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Robert R. Livingston wrote the Declaration of Independence.
Wrong. I asked many here they had preferred the south won the war. Of late I have asked anyone and all here if the South had won the war would the South ended slavery. Care to take a stab at that. Since you’re making baseless accusation perhaps you can tell me who I’ve accused of this accusation. And as an aside you vituperative little git you’ve showed yourself to be an petulant tiresome and some what foul little piece of trash. And get this through you head. At one I was a liberal. That is until 9/11 changed my outlook and since then I have followed the conservative path. I’m not and nor do I endorse the Libertarian party.
And it was another generation who took up arms against the duly elected government of the United States. Hey bozo. I’ve had about all of you and your venerating of South treason and I’ve had more than enough of you so piss off.
Bug off loser. You were caught in a lie, and are now trying to deflect. Nice try. I’m finished with you.
Did I say something wrong?
The flag graphic needs to correct its math. 1865-1786 = 79, not 76.
However another way to do the math is that under the U.S. federal flag slavery was legal about 34 percent of the time, under the CSA flag, it was legal 100 percent of the time.
That said, I support Mississippi keeping its flag. Mostly because I loathe the Leftists who say they can’t have it.
Oh-oh, it looks like our FRiend hit the sauce too heavy last night and vomited all over this thread. ohioman is having difficulties with his words. Fortunately it also looks like he wandered away to sleep it off. Could we get a clean-up on post #254?
Bet you were a hell of a hall monitor in school weren't you? How often did you get your ass kicked?
I have absolutely zero respect for wimps who call the mods every time they get their widdle feelings hurt.
“However another way to do the math is that under the U.S. federal flag slavery was legal about 34 percent of the time, under the CSA flag, it was legal 100 percent of the time.”
Still another way to look at it: under the first four years of the CSA, slavery was legal 100 percent of the time. Under the first 79 years of the federal flag, slavery was legal 100 percent of the time. Prior to either flag, slavery had been legal for about 6,000 years.
Where you stand sometimes depends on where you sit.
Newsflash to you. Nobody cares. :-)
We don’t care as we fly our flag proudly and laugh at the leftards up North twisting themselves into knots over it. Or the Blacks who have it 1000 times better here than they would if they were living in Africa.
Such incisive repartee. You must be a Yale man.
