Actually, Stanley Dunham existed. Last time I saw her (which was the first time) she was at a party being held by A. Schmidgall-Tellings. The attendees were mostly associated with anti-Sukarno forces in Indonesia. Plenty of former Dutch colonial bureaucrats, etc.
There’s really no reason to doubt she existed. At the same time I would expect the CIA front story for her probably can’t withstand stiff internet scrutiny.
Now, about those phone numbers ~ I set up our own PBX so that several people located in a different city could still be reached through our DIN (that’s that number that routes you to the main PBX any time any of the numbers on an assigned block is dialed.)

Did Stanley Armour get his real estate license in 1959? Taking a guess from the article about home prices increasing from 1958.
The Pratt Furniture Co. of Spokane (I assume) predated the CIA by at least 27 years, since that Pratt married in 1920. Somebody can probably find us a Pratt Furniture Co. in a Spokane newspaper or directory. Maybe it will even have the founding date listed.

Both Stanley A and Walter R are there, correctly (?) spelled DunhaM. Walter and Virginia still live at the same address, but Stanley and Madelyn (spelled Madeline) are now at Kalanianaole St.
Can you imagine how thrilled my researcher friend was, when I pointed out that nothing sent to me came with dates? What you see is what I got.
Wouldn’t a filing in the business records for the State of Hawaii indicate a company? Maybe Pratt and Dunham decided to strike out on their own and open a business in Hawaii but it never got off the ground.
I haven’t read Maraniss’s book, just excerpts. He may fill in more of the blanks about the Pratts and what became of them. Maraniss may be a respected journalist and biographer but he also seems to try too hard to fill in the blanks exactly the way the progressives and the supporters of Barry want them to be filled. The book tries to explain many questions that have been raised about Barry over the past 5 or so years. Now Maraniss gets credit for debunking some of the official narrative in Barry’s books, when most of what Maraniss “found” was found and reported on at FR as well as blogs, in spite of the official biographers and the media. Much of what he found (in the alternative media) was missed by Maraniss in his previous Obama endeavors as well as by the other biographers. We’re left to wonder exactly how they do their research and whether or not they even try to verify the pablum that’s spoon fed to them by Obama and his supporters.

There’s really no substitute for reading the whole thread as it progresses...not just the comments addressed to you, which means you might miss a lot of information. Even links with no comment attached can sometimes have little gems to share.

No problem. We take what we can get. I’ve made clippings from a newspaper and forgotten to include the top of the page or write a date and the source on them. Sometimes, if a microfilm or a database is the source of the record, that’s all they have—a cropped excerpt. When I had a subscription, I used to see cropped snippets like that at Ancestry.
All I know is that her daughter said they found her work on disc in a dusty drawer after she died, and it was always Maya’s ambition to have it published.
Alice Dewey maintains SAD wanted it published in Indonesian.
