A few weeks ago, Levar Burton, the actor best-known for his role as Geordi LaForge in Star Trek and the host of the long-running kids' show Reading Rainbow, appeared on a CNN roundtable and offered up a sobering how-to on driving while black:
Listen, I'm going to be honest with you. This is a practice that I engage in whenever I am stopped by law enforcement and I've taught this to my son, who is now 33, as part of my duty as a father to ensure that he knows the kind of world in which he's growing up. I take my hat off and my sunglasses off, I put them on the passenger's side. I roll down my window, I take my hands and stick them outside the window and on the door of the driver's side because i want that officer to be as relaxed as he can be when he approaches my vehicle. And I do that because I live in America.

It's a lesson that many of us got from out folks at some point, often before we got that other uncomfortable parent-child conversation about the birds and the bees. Don't move suddenly. Answer questions clearly, and with yes, sir and no, sir. Don't raise your voice. If you're handcuffed, don't say anything until we [your parents] get there....

I told ‘em —always make sure you have a valid passport.
That is funny.
To be careful not to be victimized by a racist lynch mob that is out to kill white people
You mean after we talk to them about “gay” “marriage”, homosexuality, transgender, cross dressing, abortion rights, self-esteem, global warming, wealth redistribution, etc.
The Democrat party supposedly gets most of the Hispanic vote.
How does railroading a Hispanic help?
And how completely will the GOP miss this opportunity?
I told my 22yo CHP .40 cal carrying daughter...
“Zimm not guilty...be aware...be on your toes.”
"Don't go 'round jackin' folks strange to you."
Wow, you nailed it.
"I did with my son, but he's white. He cried and said "I hate that I won the cosmic lottery and I can't share it."
This is what many white liberals teach their children. Be ashamed. You only won some kind of lottery and you should feel bad about it.
Marten didn't have to hide in a bush and attack George when he was peacefully walking away. Marten chose to become violent. Marten threw the first punch. End of story.
I told them to zip up and go to bed.
My advice to all black kids is if you see a creepy ass cracker following you, don’t get angry, knock him down, and start beating his head against the cement. He might get upset about having his brains bashed in, take out a gun, and kill you to death.
So why do liberals think that advice doesn't apply to every kid? I told my son the exact same thing. And it is good advice for anybody.
There are few instances I can think of where doing the opposite of those suggestions will do you any good during an interaction with a police officer who isn't over at your house attending a barbeque as a friend.
It ain't rocket surgery.
None of my kids would ever dream about jumping on GZ or anyone else, but if pounced on, they might do the same as GZ.
My kids agreed with the verdict.
I don’t have kids, but warned friends living in the city(I live waaaay out in rural E TX) to be careful when out and about. Keeping their heads on a swivel will keep their heads attached. Coincidentally, at work on Friday, we fired an older, black woman due to her incompetence and inability to perform her job duties. This makes Monday morning look like all kinds of fun. Hopefully, this last comment does not need a sarc tag. :/
I told him if in the same situation to go home, do not circle around and confront someone with a gun. But he knows this already.
Told them justice was served and to watch out for thugs out for revenge and to stay at home.
How odd. That’s the same thing I do.
