I think I've had enough. I live in the most conservative stronghold of California, near FreeRepublic itself, but I've had it. I have long considered where I should take my skills, and Wyoming comes to mind. A very large state with the lowest population in the union. I see that Wyoming (69%R, 28%D) came in 2nd only to Utah (73%R, 25%D). Are there any Wyoming FReepers who can give me the lowdown on the state? All I require to make a living is a decent internet connection.
If I were to plan a driving vacation to Wyoming to get a look around, what are the cities I should consider? How does the tax situation there compare to places like Texas or Oklahoma?
Thanks for your time,
MarineBrat
Come on down to the Missouri Ozarks.
Low taxes, deer, turkey, great fishing, low taxes.
You can shoot your gun, shoot great big firecrackers, land is inexpensive. Four seasons (although summer can be hot and humid.)
Did I mention low taxes ?
Texas is really nice, too!!!
Utah and Wyoming cold cold cold!!! Too cold! weather wise!
Good for you. There must be better places than Kalifornia.
Even up here is tons better.
My husband doesn’t want to leave Cali. He’s a native, and just can’t seem to let go of the idea of moving. My daughters have 2 more years of high school (at a nice Christian school).
My son has gone to Texas for college. He’s seen the writing on the wall.
I’ve told my husband I want to leave.
How about Arkansas? How about the Ozarks?
Thanks to all for the replies. And thanks to some for the PM’s. Will be looking into my escape.
Check out Fort Collins/Loveland CO while in WY.
You will probably find it much prettier and much less windy than WY.
its not your country if you don’t live here....
I spent a few days there this summer. Eagle Rock. Yep, hot, but as a motorcycle rider I was drooling about the roads around there. I can just imagine the outdoors there....
St. George Utah is not - but it gets pretty darn hot there in the summer... 110F in the summer.
I feel your pain! I have lived in the Inland Empire in California for the past 32 years and am leaving for my home state (Red) of Mississippi by the end of the year.
I don’t know anything about Wyoming, but I can highly recommend MS. A “mansion” in MS can be had for a couple hundred thousand or less...and I’m talking with several acres. Wide open spaces and wonderful people.
I am considering Utah or McCall Idaho.
I’ll still be in KahLeeFawnEeYah but I won’t vote here, pay taxes here.
Just not going to participate in this scam.
My wife and i are going to see what kind of work we can find in other states and we are leaving. It is sad I really loved this place.
“My parents need me. My kids are entrenched. I cannot leave, and I just moved to the beach so I am happy here. The weather is perfect and I saw dolphins yesterday.
Those of us who are staying, what can we do? Besides learn Spanish.”
Learn Spanish and enjoy the weather.
Seriously.
As a very wise gal once said:
“We can evade reality. What we cannot evade are the consequences of evading reality”...
You have said that you “cannot leave”. If you truly mean that, you’re only option is to recognize the consequences of your decision. You will always be ruled by leftists (who grow progressively worse), and you won’t have “a political voice’ again.
The only option to escape this fate... is to leave.
That said, you really need to visit there. The biggest cities would seem like small towns to most Californians. And you really need to visit in winter, which is way different than in most states, including most of CO.
A few things to know --- when people say it is windy here -- BELIEVE THEM. It is windy and the summers can be hot, but not humid --- not like MN and no mosquitos (huge plus for me). Anyway 100 in the summer here is about the same as 80 + humid from where I came from.
The people are fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Depending on where you are looking, many are also transplants from other states, so they know/understand what you may be going through.
We found housing about the same $$ or a little less -- but we lived in the lakes area of MN, so not sure if you should go by just my opinion. Our real estate taxes here are less than half what they were in MN.
Internet is a HUGE issue for me. If you live in a city, you shouldn't have a problem --- however, if you go rural, understand that you may not have options.
And be prepared to drive !! Long stretches of beautiful, breathtaking scenery between the cities.
Buy a cowboy hat & boots -- bring a truck and your conservative, freedom & America loving ideals and you will fit right in.
I was born/raised in MN, lived there over 50 years and it is a beautiful state, but the socialist policies finally forced us to leave and just in time from what I see from the election back there.
Wyoming may not be perfect (cold but ok -- but I come from MN), and windy. Lonely a little too, but I love it !!
Its far more capitalist than the US will ever be again.
But Canada has no First or Second Amendment. Firearms are highly restricted, and you can get in trouble if you say something that's politically incorrect.
Nice nativist belch.
Tell it to the Americans in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
There are over a million overseas Americans.
Take a look at rural upstate South Carolina.
