“Does Romney agree?”
Let him take a close look at his internal polls,he’ll get back with an answer later.

What the hell does Nugent’s killing an illegal bear in Alaska have to do with the position he took when he stated, “it may have been better had the South won the civil war”. Then again, what does that statement have to do with anything?

I tend to agree with Nugent. And, at this point, a remake would be in order. The entire center section of this country ought to secede.

Which civil war? The last one? Or the next one?

I know we're all a little edgy because our freedom is being sucked away from us by the current administration but, to say that it would have been better if the south had won the civil war is nuts.

I concede the south had many great traditions ruined by the civil war but, the institution of slavery was an indefensible cruelty. The history of southern racism following the civil war is also a great shame that we'd all like to forget about.

Who looks back with more shame and regret: The Nazi's or the southern racists? I pretty much think it's a tie. Still, those civil rights issues have been resolved long ago and those days, though regretful, are done.

In conclusion, let's not get crazy about who was in the moral ‘right’ over the civil war. Facts is facts.

"Does Romney agree?"

The question is do you agree with the misquote "Nugent: ‘Best’ if South had won Civil War" that you posted?

The actual Nugent quote, found later in the article was:

“Because our legislative, judicial and executive branches of government hold the 10th Amendment in contempt, I’m beginning to wonder if it would have been best had the South won the Civil War.”
A conservative or any honest person can not fail to see the difference. Blind acceptance of liberal distortions and Sol Alinsky propaganda tactics have no place on FR.

Problem is, the left redefined the CW1 as about slavery in Joe Public’s mind, when that was the symptom, not the disease. So this won’t be received well. Wish he had phrased it differently, to make his real point ‘unheadlineable’.

Considering Nuge is originally from Michigan, an interesting statement.

A South win would have been better for our Constitution...limited form of government

Also, the so-called Anti-Slavery people were against the spread of slavery because they did not want blacks in the new territories and states....they used “anti-slavery” to cover their own racism. They were no saints. They treated blacks just as bad as Southern plantation owners.

I’d say, “better” if the South had won, “best” if the War had never taken place. I’ve said before, slavery was moribund, it would have died in the South without the Civil War. For the Freedman, the benefits were tangible, but modest. The cost of the War was enormous. Neither side would have entered the War if they had foreseen the cost.

I think Ted Nugent is less embarrassing to Romney than the New Black Panthers are to Obamugabe, those same Black Panthers who talk about killing “whitey” and who put a bounty on the life of George Zimmerman.

Of course the morons in the dying mainstream media don’t give a damn about those elements of Obamugabe’s support.

IMHO, what would have been best is if this had been settled during the Convention.

The Southern states were economically dependent on slavery, and the Northern states agreed, by ratification of the Constitution, to the practice in order to get them into the Union.

If the Southern states had known they'd be expected to give it up and have their economies destroyed as soon as the wars were over and the Northern states didn't need those resources any more, they never would have joined. They got lied to, and they were pissed about it.

The proper course for history would have been for our Founding Fathers not to found. The compromises worked into the Constitution to accommodate the slave states essentially kicked the can down the road, and all but insured the Civil War.

I believe, had two nations been formed, or none, or a northern one and a handful of separate, sovereign states/countries in the south, that the forward course would have been better for the people of this continent.

And yes, the southern states would eventually have ended slavery, as did all European-derives countries. The slave trade had been going on for many centuries run by Moslems and Black Africans before any Europeans got involved, and it went on (run by those same people) for many centuries after European people ended it, having found it incompatible with their Christianity and their basic ideas of fundamental individual liberty.

...You will know them by the fruits they bare...Many years and then many more years ago there was such a thing know as the Circus Maximus. It revolved around one key theme which was the act of Christians killing other Christians...The Civil war indeed !...That there have been many wars since the Circus Maximus is true , and now it would seem that many of these other wars also involved Christians killing other Christians...or , has the learned public been blinded once again by spectacle and politic and lost the ability to actually see that which has taken place before their very eyes.
That there is a very powerful and controlling entity upon the planet should be apparent, however, there are many among us that still adamantly refuse to accept this factual reality but instead rely solely upon the dribble fed to them by total strangers and those that inhabit higher office.
What you as a Christian must do is to bring forward those events of the past and see them anew in the bright light of today...What was then seen as crystal clear and undeniable truth now appears dull and tarnished within this new light, just as those heroic efforts and sacrifice made by our ancestors now become only so much joy and amusement for those that mean us harm. BEWARE !
So, you see the Civil war between the North and South as a battle against slavery when in fact it was only a newer episode of the Circus Maximus and once again the spectacle of Christians killing other Christians. This war was the first of many with the same predictable justifications and outcome,so,before you comment please dig a little deeper.
All were victims of these so called wars and it is your duty as a Christian to never let this kind of tragedy take place from now till the end of time...Now is not the time to turn our swords against one another, as there are many others today that are more benefiting of its sting.

I don't think I could agree with that. Two rival nations side by side? Or one nation beside a confederation of more than a dozen independent, autonomous entities? (And Texas as an independent nation itself?)

Could this country have expanded across to the Pacific? Could those territories have become states? And could America achieve its level of greatness among the nations of the world, split brother against brother?

Great, now I have to read some Alternate History sci-fi (Harry Harrison or Turtledove or one of those guys).
