Aging rocker and reality TV personality Ted Nugent is emerging, even ahead of Donald Trump, as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romneys most embarrassing public supporter.
Nugent is at it again, reacting to the Supreme Courts ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act by writing in the Rev. Sun Myung Moons Washington Times that America would have been better off had the South won the Civil War.
A full Nugent rant, which might be subtitled Robe Rage:
The bottom line is that Chief Justice Roberts traitor vote will ensure more monumental spending and wasted taxes and put almost 15 percent of the nations gross domestic product under one of the worlds most bureaucratic, ineffective, incompetent and grossly expensive systems ever devised by man: our out-of-control federal government.

“Northern racism still exists because many of the Northerners have not learned to live with the blacks as have Southerners.”
My dad used to say that the Northerner would tell the black man he could go higher, but could not come closer. The Southerner would tell the black man he could come closer, but could not go higher. There is too much truth in those generalizations. Happily they are fading to some extent.
My favorite general of the Civil War is Stonewall Jackson. He defied the federals and their murderous invasion, even as he defied Virginia’s proscription against black literacy. He maintained a clandestine school to teach blacks to read, so they could read the Bible and be saved. A rebel’s rebel.
Except for that whole slavery thing.
There are a lot of states like Maryland and Vermont which you could take one or two counties out of and they’d be perfectly normal red states. If the country ever really does split up, we need to ensure it’s along county lines and not by states.
Actually, economic analysis in the 1850s by Frederick Law Olmsted and others indicated that paying people wages was more economical than slavery, due to increased productivity of wage workers. The thought at the time was that slavery would disappear in just a few decades.
Note also that slavery seemed to be on the way out in the late 1700s -- then Ely Whitney invented the cotton gin and created a huge industry around a new cash crop. The fact is that slavery was an anomaly. Fifty years after the cotton gin it was once again seen as a sloppy way to run an economy. It was limping along and would have withered away without the war.
Until a few years ago, I would have thought talk of this country splitting up was nonsense. Now, I don't see how the left and right could ever reconcile, especially with all of the violence the left has unleashed on Conservatives who don't share their "tolerant" views.
Worse than nuts, we'd have been an English colony in all but name starting from 1865 and ending when Jesus comes back.
Slavery would likely have died out by the early 1900's as a result of industrialization, but few probably foresaw that in the 1860's. The south in general sure didn't see it, and fought hard to keep it. The question is, would you have wanted to be a slave in the south during those few decades?
People simply ignore the facts and believe what they want to believe or are told to believe by the media.
Ted drugs are bad, mmkay?
All politicians are not above the law
I’d say, “better” if the South had won, “best” if the War had never taken place. I’ve said before, slavery was moribund, it would have died in the South without the Civil War. For the Freedman, the benefits were tangible, but modest. The cost of the War was enormous. Neither side would have entered the War if they had foreseen the cost.
You lack understanding of the issues which led to the last Civil War. Let's hope your stupidity ends if there is another one. With the ignorance you display here, I have little hope that nothing but totalitarianism is in our future.
What I am saying is if the South had won, jerks like you would not live in my country. You would be living in Canada II, me in the CSA.
Everything you posted is historically accurate, but I don’t don’t see where anything I posted contradicts that. If you want to call me out with the point that southern white slave traders weren’t the only bad guys in the slave trade, no need, I agree. That didn’t make it right.
Study the history of the state of West Virginia. What you describe is what was done.
Ignoramus! What a despicable thing to say. And . . ."civil rights issues resolved long ago" . . by whom? Johnson and the Great Society? The democrats and their racist programs set back those issues by a century!
I know we’re all a little edgy because our freedom is being sucked away from us by the current administration but, to say that it would have been better if the south had won the civil war is nuts.
The history of southern racism following the civil war is also a great shame that we’d all like to forget about

Nugent said it may have been better had the South won the civil war-—may have.
*snip* If Loewen’s first priority is to unveil what he calls the “hidden history” of sundown towns, his second is to debunk the widely held idea that when the issue is race, the South is always “the scene of the crime,” as James Baldwin famously wrote. The incidence of sundown communities in the South, Loewen reports, was actually far lower than it was in a Midwestern state such as Illinois, in which roughly 70 percent of towns were sundown towns in 1970. “This does not make whites in the traditional South less racist than [those] in . . . other regions of the country,” he suggests. */snip*

I am sick and tired of the South being the whipping boy.
I thought that stuff happened in Florida or Mississippi somewhere, but not here in New York State, Mayor Mike Bloomberg lashed out in anger this week

Whenever anyone wants to mimic a stupid person they generally break into their very best contorted, fake, southern accent.
The South doesn’t have the market on racism, it doesn’t and never did. Racism was/is and remains an American problem, not a regional one.
Slavery needed to end. Though, slavery would have ended without the war and I’m glad it didn’t take the longer route. I just wish it could have happened without the war.
I am sick of bigoted Yankees using the South as their example of everything negative, backwards and embarrassing. It’s time the Northern folk quit looking down their nose shaking a finger—they have plenty to tend in their own gardens.
What may have been better had the South won...taxes would remain in the South and not go to bigoted Northern states who look down their noses at the South and who aren’t Right-to-Work states. We would be free of that cancer.
Unions are destroying this country and they are freaking communist. Mostly the South is right-to-work.
I think Ted Nugent is less embarrassing to Romney than the New Black Panthers are to Obamugabe, those same Black Panthers who talk about killing “whitey” and who put a bounty on the life of George Zimmerman.
Of course the morons in the dying mainstream media don’t give a damn about those elements of Obamugabe’s support.
