What If Obama Were Foreign? (Here comes the rationalizing!)
Death and Taxes ^ | April 11, 2011 | Andrew Belonsky

Sarah Palin attached herself to Donald Trump’s Birther conspiracy this weekend, throwing more fuel on a fire that won’t quit. The question no one appears to be asking, though, is “Would it be such a big deal if Barack Obama were born elsewhere?”

“I appreciate that the Donald wants to spend his resources in getting to the bottom of something that so interests him and many Americans,” said Palin, whose popularity has been steadily slipping, of Trump’s Birther crusade.

“He’s not just throwing stones from the sidelines, he’s digging in, he’s paying for researchers to find out why President Obama would have spent $2 million to not show his birth certificate, so more power to him.”

While surely Palin simply wants to make herself relevant in someway, her remarks—and the entire racist Birther debate—made me wonder whether it would matter if Obama were born outside of the States.

Yes, our constitution says that president must be American made, but it also says that being born in the States gives you citizenship, an amendment the GOP, targeting “anchor babies,” is more than willing to kibosh, so why not remove the presidential restriction altogether?

We live in a post-globalization world. The strict geographical and political boundaries our Founding Fathers knew are long gone. No longer are Brits our enemies, and no longer do our political offices need protection from interlopers. Human travel has become more fluid, and allegiance to America is shared by people from all walks, and continents, of life.

A person does not run for president to take over, corrupt or destroy a nation. There is no Manchurian Candidate. A man or woman runs for the White House because they have the nation’s best interest in mind, even if they weren’t born here. It’s not as if the presidency is a career chosen willy-nilly, or for nefarious purposes. It takes over your entire life.

If you need some proof, check out what Obama says he misses most about his pre-White House life: “I just miss – I miss being anonymous. I miss Saturday morning, rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my girls, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can’t take a walk.”

Obama’s life—and that of his family—has forever been changed. Not because he wants to erode our nation or is some alien invader, but because he cares about this country and wants to do what’s best for it, just like any other person who runs for president. Even George W. Bush loved this nation and, despite his many, many mistakes, did what he thought was best.

It seems to me that today, the 21st Century, our highest office should be open to anyone who holds citizenship—whether by birthright or adoption—and who can win the voters’ hearts and minds. The rule stating presidents be born here is not only close-minded, it’s unnecessary, paranoid and archaic.

Great Comment!!

Has he never opened a history book?

There have always been men that sought personal power via the ballot box; who were interested in attaining public office so they could use it for personal power. Rome, for example, was founded as a democracy, and ended up a dictatorship. That was over 2,000 years ago.

Obama & his Puppeteers are determined to destroy “Capitalism” & diminish our status in the World to make room for “One World Government” with that “Vile” George Soros at the controls!

What is wrong with people who can not see this??

“our highest office should be open to anyone who holds citizenship—whether by birthright or adoption”

I thought the phrase he used “by birthright or adoption” was a little strange. And I made an observation based purely on supposition. So I got to thinking maybe he meant by someone adopting this country. So, I googled birthright or adoption. And, Guess what you get. Adoption agencies and services.

I've never heard that phrase before concerning immigration. Maybe it's been used, I don't know.

"If he is a foreigner it means he’s a lying fraud who deceived the American people. It means he belongs in prison along with all the traitors who helped him with his crime."

Treason! If proven to be true is punishable by death in this country, but only in a time of war. I guess the USSC might have to decide if treason is punishable by death in a time of "kinetic military action". Either way, if in fact Obama is not eligible to be President, then every liar that helped him would also be guilty of treason and subject to death in a time of war.

This could also explain why Obama is so careful not to use the word war.

Why does it have to be one way or the other? Politicians run for office because they've chosen a particular program and want to put it into effect, or because they just like having power and position.

It's extremely unlikely that somebody gets elected because he or she wants to ruin the country. Most likely, people who think that a politician deliberately and consciously wants to destroy a country can't separate their own belief that the politicians ideas are destructive from the notion that the politician has to be some sort of melodrama villain who wants to do evil. There's something a little childish about that inability to see things in perspective.

But that doesn't mean we have to take politicians as men and women of good will who desire what's best for us. Rather, if they aren't just in it for power and position, they've adopted an ideology that gives them answers and moves them to take certain actions. They are what they are and they will be judged by the consequences of their actions. We don't have to see them as well-meaning saints or consciously evil-doing demons.

Even if The Won was, in fact, born in Hawaii as he claims, he has gone to extraordinary lengths to prevent his birth certificate's release.

There's obviously something on it that would be catastrophic to his carefully-constructed image as "First African-American President".

What is it?
