U.S. Marines boot recruits with Confederate tattoos

A widely regarded Southern symbol of pride and states' rights is standing in the way of would-be Marines in their quest to serve their country – a Confederate battle flag.

Straight out of high school, one 18-year-old Tennessee man was determined to serve his country as a Marine. His friend said he passed the pre-enlistment tests and physical exams and looked forward with excitement to the day he would ship out to boot camp.

But there would be no shouting drill instructors, no rigorous physical training and no action-packed stories for the aspiring Marine to share with his family.

Shortly before he was scheduled to leave Nashville for boot camp, the Marine Corps rejected him.

Now, the young man, who wishes to remain unnamed and declined to be interviewed, has chosen to return to school and is no longer an aspiring Marine.

"I think he just wants to let it go," said former Marine 1st Lt. Gene Andrews, a friend of the man and patriotic Southerner who served in Vietnam from 1968 through 1971. Andrews is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group of male descendents of Confederate soldiers. He counseled the young man when he decided to become a Marine.

"He had been talking to me, and he was all fired up about joining," he told WND. "He asked my opinion of it, and I just tried to tell him the truth, good points and bad points."

When the young recruit didn't go to boot camp, Andrews learned of his rejection based on his tattoo of the Confederate battle flag on his shoulder.

You have a hard time believing historical facts, so this doesn’t surprise me.

When are you going to come up with some?

“black people somewhere offend me daily...right now Al Sharpton is on his way to Arizona to offend me”

Ditto! The black racists have no problem offending me as a southern boy and calling me a drunken, racist, ignorant, in-bred, redneck for being a white man from the South. We’ve got people here on FR that say those things.

“The North started trying to get its hands deeper and deeper into the South’s pockets. The South sought to put a stop to it.
Similar thing are happening in these times.”

So what, militants should be able to break off from our country and wage war on our government? I’m all for protests, but we’ll oust our government at the polls. The Confederacy, while having legitimate beef, was a foreign enemy.

Only a propagandist such as yourself denies facts then says he has never seen any, so there is no need to bother with giving you any more.

It is incontrovertible fact that most of the military men of this nation come from the former eleven states called the Confederacy.

Nonsense. The south does have a higher enlistment rate than other regions, but the statistics are that they make up about 42% of recruits out of a pool that includes 35% of the military recruitment-age population. Not wildly out of proportion, in other words. The states with the highest military enlistment rates, by they way, are Montana, Alaska, Wyoming and Maine.

>>btw...I got a lot of dead southern kin from plenty of wars since and my three war combat vet father in law (RIP) had a CSA flag on his forearm.<<

I figured as much but you already said it, “these bastards are shameful.”

And only a propagandist such as yourself posts BS as fact.

The 1st Alabama Cavalry is my favorite Southern regiment of the war. They certainly had the true nature of the plantation power structure figured out and acted accordingly.

. Your overt hatred of all things Southern makes your comments 2-dimensional and predictable.

I do not hate all things Southern. In post #250 of this thread I express my esteem for the noble warriors of the 1st Alabama Cavalry.

What you have here are some angry black freepers and some not so conservative race baiters who fly out of the same nest.

maybe 3-4 genuine conservatives who loathe the South....race baiting is all the rest do though

I’ve been here a long time and watch them...some are even the same poster with different monikers

and they get caught on occasion posting racist crap to draw their own nest or to make us look bad.

remember them...you will see them say something lib on some topic at some time

one for instance...maybe their leader actually...is very very soft on Islam, Abortion and get this....could we have won WWII without the Communists?

lol....hard to believe how they infect this forum

If you accept that argument, then you’ll accept our current flag being banned by the grievance lobby. You’re being very shortsighted.

I appreciate the stories about your family in a different part of the South, but there are many historical references to Southern discontent with the Confederacy. The Confederacy’s collapse was greatly hastened with the discontent many Southerners felt for a regime they saw as being by and for the benefit of the slave holding class. An understanding of the times is very incomplete without a study of the Confederacy’s war against its own people.

Just because a thing is Southern don't make it automatically racist.

That viewpoint is at the heart of my understanding of the conflict.

You were probably just trying to get someone's bobber down, but the US Declaration of War was signed on June 18, 1812, and contained a recitation of the depravations of USA sovereignty by Great Britain which necessitated it.

The invasion of Canada followed a month later..

Interesting. You haven’t the slightest idea what my position is on the Stars & Bars and yet you fall all over yourself to insult and assume.

Pretty much what I’ve come to expect from your kind...
