Hi FRiends,
I have two brothers who I love very much, theyre young and libertarian Ron Paul supporters, sigh. We get along and Im hoping that one day theyll come back to conservatism, but they have bought into a theory that I dont think makes much sense:
Abe Lincoln was a dictator.
There are many websites dedicated to this nonsense you can Google "Abe Lincoln dictator" and get some weird stuff, if you want to check it out.
I need your help in busting this myth are there any books I can read on this subject to dispel this stuff? Do you know any of the arguments to combat this nonsense? Ie. Lincoln did not want to free the slaves.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to help me out, -Erod

That's Bullshit
The Preamble: We, the people of the Confederate States, each State acting in its sovereign and independent character,
Ignoring Language is your covens specialty! What is Sovereign?

Nobody built one to Benedict Arnold or Tokyo Rose either.
Lincoln, the Hero Emancipator, and well known racist, has one. It's called hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy is holding Lincoln to modern standards while not holding your own rebel leaders to those same standards. Hypocrisy is condemning Lincoln as a racist while ignoring the fact that Davis and Lee and Jackson were bigger racists.
A more appropriate monument would be a butcher block and cleaver.
We can always rename the garbage dumpsters behind the Lincoln memorial as a suitable tribute to your rebel leaders. Then you could have your monument on the mall as well, since you seem so broken up about it.
When I'm dealing with you it's very easy.
But all you have to do is look at that picture you claim you have to know one way or the other.
And what explains your long absences and sudden reappearances on FR, dearie? Parole?
Where did I ever do that? It seems to appear all were racists back then.
Corrected.

I was hoping his 'alleged' company was publicly traded :( Nothing will drive a stocks price lower - faster - Than a embezzler dressed in drag..
Butcher bump.
Eh, it’s early here to.
Good question. When have you ever condemned Davis and Lee as racists?
I condemn racism, from people of all colors, at all times, both now and in the past.
I've no doubt you do.

ROTFLMAO!!!!! You all were so 'grateful' to those stalwart sable souls who fought and died for your noble cause that how did you repay them? By enacting black codes in every single rebellious state that attempted to return all blacks, even those who had been free for decades or those who served the confederate army, to a condition as closely approximating slavery as you could possibly get. By denying them the right to vote. By denying them access to schools or decent housing. By sending the Klan after them and lynching them. Oh yeah, you all were soooooo appreciative of their service. </sarcasm>

J.J.Johnson's truisms Bump:
Okay, so whats wrong with me? In celebration of slain Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther Kings day (week?) if I watch enough news, I should be out there with my black brethren yelling, screaming and looking to burn every free waving set of Stars and Bars I run across. So whats wrong? Shouldnt I be offended as well? In a way, yes. I am. And heres why: I had ancestors who fought on both sides of that war which was anything but civil. Surprised? Yes, in Northern Mississippi in fact. Cousin against cousin. One man trying to protect what was his, and one who escaped slavery only to be drafted into taking his cousins land away. This little fact, along with all the arguments about Southern Heritage, Southern Pride and Remembering the Gentlemen who in died war gets lost in all the noise about why its so insensitive.
And I am just fed up with it.
More than that, Im fed up with the yellow-bellied, white guys who dont have the guts to fight back on the issue. I know, no one wants to get labeled the R word. To politicians, its a label thats worse than being called a liar, an adulterer or a draft dodger. And heaven knows, you white guys in the public sector better not even bring it up at work or in public. Theres a civil rights lawsuit with your name on it. Yet, I know how many of you especially you folks south of the Mason-Dixon line must feel right now.
Wanna fight back?
Hold my coat for a minute
Where were these protests against OUR Confederate battle flag for the last 135 years? Why are these black people allowing themselves to be manipulated by the media and their left-wing, so-called "black leadership?" Whenever I hear a black person talk about this flag issue, I ask them the same questions. Do you know how long that flag has been flying over those state capitals? Havent you seen them there before? The answer from most blacks I talk to out west is, who cares? Not good enough for the National Association for the Advancement of Career Politicians (NAACP). Not good enough for these modern-day Plantation Pimps who cant find any other juvenile criminals to fight for so now they retaliate by dissing a great hunk of American culture. This is ONLY being done to pander to black voters this political season. You see, back in 1992, folks just decided to burn down Los Angeles while liberal politicians mailed gasoline to the rioters. This time, lets burn down a heritage instead.
I hope some black person is reading this right now and fuming. You should be. If you think the Confederate flag is insulting to you, you are being used, or as we say it in the hood, you bein played for a fool. By who? Not by those evil conservatives, but by the liberal white man. The ones wholl take your votes, then tell you youre not good enough to make it on your own.But there is no sense giving you the same argument many of the Southern Ladies and Gentleman are trying to give now. You dont want to hear them, anyway.
Lets talk about insensitivity, shall we?
If you dont mind, some of us with southern roots are going to find every Vietnamese American citizen in this country, bus them to Washington, D.C. and protest to have the Vietnam Memorial removed from the park. Why stop there? On the way to Washington, we might as well grab every citizen with German or Japanese ancestors. With enough noise, we can get rid of that World War II Memorial, too. After all, These people all had relatives who were killed by the men and women America honors at those Memorials. You liberal, nothing-else-better-to-do black folks wouldnt mind, would you? Yes. Let that sink in real good. Thats what youre doing to these good people of the South. You are DESECRATING THEIR MEMORIAL Check that Our Memorial.
What ever happened to Diversity? Tolerance? Must be a one sided thing. Dont give me that Symbol of Slavery bullspit. If that were the case, turn in all those 1, 20, 50, and 100 dollar bills. The faces on these bills were men who were leaders when many blacks were slaves. But lets get down and dirty, shall we?
The worst riot in American history was not in Los Angeles. It was in New York, back in 1863.
You see, there were a bunch of people who, like during Vietnam, didnt want be conscripted (read: drafted) to serve in an unjust war. Talk to your President about that. Over 1200 people died in just two days. Most when President Lincoln sent federal troops in to put down the rebellion. Oh, by the way, 83 blacks were lynched in those two days right there in The Big Apple. So, which flag do you really want taken down?
But since were all told to boycott, will those leftist, black elected leaders in South Carolina boycott the Statehouse while its in session? I doubt it. Will they avoid buying goods in their own state? Doubt it. Our forefathers who wrote the Constitution gave all of us a way to deal with a states policies we didnt like. Thats what the South was fighting for. It was not about slavery. If that were the case, wed be bombing China right now, and we would not accept license plates made with prison labor right here in the good ol USA.
Oh Whats the black population percentage in prison these days, anyway? The multicultural extremists cant call me racist, but in the black socialist community, they have even uglier words for people who refuse to live on that plantation, such as me. Just ask Clarence Thomas.
So let that flag wave proudly as a monument to the last Army in this country that actually fought for the Constitution. I am proud to have ancestors who fought with them. And for those people who dont want their state to fly the stars and bars, here a solution thats much easier than protesting leave. Theres a term for it. Its called white flight.

It had over 4 times the free population as the South, 10 times the manufacturing, 14 times the textile production, 38 times the coal production and 15 times the iron production. The U.S. had 3 times the farm acreage, 7 times the railroad mileage, 9 times the merchant ship tonnage. It produced more livestock, more grain, more in almost every area except cotton. This is somewhat true, but what happens when KY, MO, MD, and DE join with the Confederacy? Why would far western agricultural states be interested in being controlled by an urban manufacturing society? Finally, given the construct of Confederacy surviving, to whom would the US export their manufactured goods to since obviously the South would immediately ally themselves with Britain for naval protection and manufactured goods? This situation leaves the remaining US sandwiched between British Canada and the Confederacy allied with Britian. My guess is Canada would refuse to integrate economically with the US for British mercantilistic reasons and the Confederacy would exclude themselves from Northern imports to reinforce its alliance with Britain. Finally, Northern textiles, pretty much the economy of New England, would have to find new suppliers of cotton or fail completely. Cotton, on a commercial basis was only available in Egypt (a British colony) and the South (an ally of Britian). So right off the bat I would imagine that NE would suffer a debilitating economic collapse that would also be felt in the manufacturing sector as well. The supposed strength of the remaining US would have to be invested in gaining parity with the Royal Navy to have any chance of insuring grain and manufactured exports to Europe. My view, given the supposition, is that the US would find itself as a marginalized player in North America and Europe both politically and economically. Its agricultural output would remain but most likely its industrial capacity would recede due to the absence of available exportable markets. Given this scenario do you expect France to see the US as an ally? Their navy at this point was pretty well shot and no match for Britian. Given these options, I don't really see a great future for the US. My thesis is the South could always have existed without the North, but the reverse was never true.
Ok, probably not 90,000.....
