There is no such thing as 'my' sources or 'your' sources. There are SOURCES. The standard of journalism is such that it is difficult to discern what is wheat and what is chaff.

A little common sense goes a long way. How old was Barbara Nelson when she had lunch with the Doctor?

She arrived in Hawaii in 1959. She must have been a teenager in 1961...it's difficult for me to picture someone who must still have been a student at the time, discussing who had given birth that day, with an obstetrician...

AND THEN SHE WAS HIS HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER

A few years later, Nelson encountered “Barry” again, when she watched high school basketball games, where her students played.

“The team came alive when he got on the court,” she said. “He was not only quick and graceful, but he could see the pattern and zero in on the opening. Though he wasn’t a starter, he was a graceful, passionate athlete who played back-up forward. He had a definite presence on the court.

“I often sat with his grandmother, who was a no-nonsense woman with these very solid Midwestern ways about her,” said Nelson. “She loved that boy and he adored her.”

As a high school teacher of British, Biblical and Middle Eastern literature, Nelson taught Obama.

oh my, how the time does fly...A FEW YEARS LATER? He's in high school now!

Supposedly Dr. West was the father of her college friend. So I can see a casual lunch and casual questions. As to her memory about 48 years later, who knows. I remember some things back to when I 2 years old, yet other stuff I can not recall from 10 years ago.

She might even be a complete liar. Who knows. The point is, there has to be some level of credibility to believe Dr. West was the proper doctor. If he was indeed retired at age 46, then he probably wasn’t O’s baby doctor. Nelson is either wrong or lying.

But, was he retired? 46 seems a young age to retire with a few kids, but he may have been rich. The picture shows an older man, before his retirement. Two other bios indicate he worked until his 70’s.

So, can we truly say, as an answer to Nelsons’ story, that he was retired. At the very least, the question is open.

parsy, who says this is why birther thread serve some useful function

Nelson article - “The team came alive when he got on the court,” she said. “He was not only quick and graceful, but he could see the pattern and zero in on the opening. Though he wasn’t a starter, he was a graceful, passionate athlete who played back-up forward. He had a definite presence on the court.”

Washington Post article - Obama stayed away from student leadership roles at Punahou and gave his friends no clues that a few decades later he would emerge as a national political figure... Keith Peterson, a school mate - “When I look back, one of the things that stood out was that he didn’t stand out,”... Mike Ramos, a school mate - “Was there a leader? Did we defer to Barry? I don’t think so”... the Buffanblu won the state championship, defeating Moanalua 60-28. Obama came off the bench to score two points. So much for the dream of becoming a rich NBA star.

Somewhere, here or a related article, there is a quote from Hussein admitting to his basketball coach years later that he wasn’t a very good player and the coach agreeing. Yeah, so much for Nelson’s dream in glorifying The One.
