According to the CDC’s Vital Statistics Report for 1961 (p. 157), Hawaii had a total of 17,578 births in 1961 and Honolulu had 14,874.

That’s still more than 40 babies a day.
The CDC report is based on 50% of the totals.
Honolulu proper had a total of 8268 births, so this would be a more reasonable number to break down for births published in Honolulu papers.
Note the difference between column 1 & 2
Honolulu county:
1 - 14,874 total births by county of occurrence
2 - 14,906 total births
3 - 14,814 physician in hospital
4 - 92 attendant not in hospital and not specified/recorded
