Give me a freaking break! He played Grant. Big Deal. They think The South is still full of Dixie singing KKK types and THIS is gonna get people upset..............................
There are plenty here on FR who haven’t gotten over the Civil War.
Yeah someone who could really hold his liquor and smoked cigars. Sounds like a winner in the South to me....
“They think The South is still full of Dixie singing KKK types and THIS is gonna get people upset..............................”
They do, especially Hollywood. The folks in Washington think you need cootie injections to go to a NASCAR race down South.
Hey...
I am not in the KKK!!!
I don't think most southerners with more than two brain cells to rub together have anything against Grant. Grant always treated his Southern counterparts well. His terms for surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia were quite equitable. They are, in their entirety, below, just as they were written by Grant and received by Lee.
Rolls of all the officers and men to be made in duplicate, one copy to be given to an officer to be designated by me, the other to be retained by such officer or officers as you may designate. The officers to give their individual paroles not to take up arms against the Government of the United States until properly exchanged; and each company or regimental commander sign a like parole for the men of their commands. The arms, artillery, and public property to be parked and stacked, and turned over to the officers appointed by me to receive them. This will not embrace the side-arms of the officers, nor their private horses or baggage. This done, each officer and man will be allowed to return to his home, not to be disturbed by U. S. authority so long as they observe their paroles and the laws in force where they may reside.

Not too many KKK Types, I've lived in Texas for 30+ years, and while I've heard of some, I never met any. But what's wrong with singing Dixie? It's a great tune...although I'll admit I found the enthusiasm which which Texans, of several ethnic groups, sang it at the first large Independence Day celebration I attended in Texas... somewhat surprising. I believe it '78 or '79. We're talking a large crowd, filling up a large (5A) high school football stadium.
What’s funny is that Hillary can put on a fake “southern/black/hick/inner city) accent at will in speeches and in front of her adoring press crews, and nobody notices. Nobody prints a thing.
Here, an ACTOR plays a role, and the NY press corpse wants to pretend the south will get upset.
