PHOENIX The mother of a 17-month-old boy found dead after he was left unattended inside a hot car for at least seven hours in a north Phoenix Hooters restaurant was arrested on one felony count of negligent homicide.
Police say the woman, Ashly Duchene, 22, left her son in her car when she arrived at the north Phoenix Hooters restaurant where she works at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. When she returned to the car after her shift at nearly 5 p.m., her son was dead.
Efforts to revive the boy by witnesses, officers and firefighters were unsuccessful. Police Sgt. Joel Tranter said temperatures hit nearly 90 degrees Tuesday, but that it would have been more than 100 degrees inside the car.
FOX 10 Phoenix reports the baby's mother had planned to drop the child off at childcare before heading to work at a restaurant near Bell Road and Interstate 17.
Instead, authorities say the mother went to work with the child still inside the car.

The baby was in a car seat in the backseat of a Honda Civic, which had very dark tinted windows. Officials believe that made him unnoticable to people going in and out of the restaurant and a car wash next door, the Republic reported.
It's unknown if the mother will face any charges in the child's death. Tranter said situations like this are handled "on a case-by-case basis."
So far, there have been no arrests.

“Is that ALL your daughter or whoever it is, is capable of?
Working at HOOTERS?
How sad ... and worse yet, you are proud of that ... .”
You’re not working hard enough to be more insulting. After all, this person is just working there to earn some cash while staying with her sick child. She certainly should have been able to get a temporary spot as, say, a CEO or university professor. Or maybe something more respectable and more safe like a convenience store clerk. /s
It’s just another restaurant chain. Get over it.
I wish your daughter success and your grandson health.
There are too many sanctimonious, first-stone casting jerks around here. I would castigate them personally if I thought it would do any good, but experience has taught me that it won’t. There’s something about the anonymity of the internet that makes some people think they can just unload their crap onto everybody else with impunity.
That’s ok. Some people have to try to belittle people and attack them to make themselves feel better about their own life. It’s like their glass is perpetually half empty.
I do not fault the Mother for working at Hooters. It is an honest living but I do fault her for her serious lack of judgement. If you cannot take care of the child, please give him to a family member that can or a reputable adoption agency. I have been to Hooters with my husband, decent place to eat but let us be frank, the waitresses are not hired to discuss the Quantum String Theory, they are hired for their outward-physical appearance./Just Asking - seoul62........

Concur on the lack of judgement on this young woman’s part.
In my daughters case she was hired because 1.-YES she is a beauty and 2.-Because of her prior experience in running a larg steak house while she went through school.
lmao that is just too funny ~Pandy~
>> This forgetting is happening way to often with death as the result.
You’re right. Children, and I include the unborn, have been displaced to an unusual priority in our society. They are objects for political rhetoric, accessories to vanity, sexual pleasures for the depraved, inconvenience byproducts of sex, subjects of indoctrination, jewels in the crown, and the kids you might see after work or during the weekend. And on occasion, the child who’s left alone to die by a negligent single parent.
I also have choice thoughts for the grand parents that choose to look the other way in the face of struggling or ignorant parents.
Everyone’s got an excuse, but no excuse is worth the welfare or innocence of a child or grandchild for that matter.
You know, I have a niece who served for a couple of years as a hostess at Hooters. She stuck with it because she made good money. She’s a college grad expecting her second child. And she was a virgin (nobody in the family has any doubt whatsoever about this, including the mom who first had sex at age 16) when she married. She’s now a stay at home mom.
Would be that you could be so good a person.
I find the whole chain humorous. I don’t know why anyone would go there. The place is a joke. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Overt displays of prepubescent sexuality are going to make me chuckle no matter what. Anyone who goes there or works there should be ashamed of themselves, and rightfully so. And when a bunch of dimwitted dullards start saying ridiculous things like “they’re only doing it because of sorrow for a little kid in the hospital”...GOOD LORD!...that’s about as pathetic as you can get.
IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN....LOL
YOU'RE CRUEL AND INSENSITIVE FOR SAYING THAT...LOL
YOU'RE A HORRIBLE PERSON...LOL
YOU'RE NOT HUMAN...LOL
gimme a dam break.
Good for her and if my own daughter wanted to work at Hooters, I would have no problem with that, like I stated before: it is an honest living. As a mother, I also want her to use her intellect to also achieve in life. Good luck to her and for her for having a committed parent such as yourself./Just Asking - seoul62........
Working at HOOTERS?

Shell make some swell friends working in HOOTERS as a SINGLE mother no less.
Never mind ... maybe this IS the BEST she can do.
Hey, NMH, go soak your head... This is no different than working as a waitress at a Denny's or an IHOP, except the tips are much better. When someone needs flexible hours, you get a job working as a food server. Let's see you get a job as a high powered executive, when you'll need lots of time off, flexible hours, and going in you've made it clear to the employer that you're only going to be there temporarily.
Go flush out your headgear! And go ahead and tag me for abuse!
Mark
So do I and I am a grandparent of 3 plus my son is trying to adopt 2 abused children. I will gladly help in any means I can.
If you are referring to slynx's daughter maybe you ought to know the whole story before you rush to judge her. There is nothing wrong with working in a Hooters. If she was a life guard at a pool she would show as much or more of her body but that would be alright. Foolish people need to get a grip. Is it sign up night here for the WBC?
She was very upfront to all the establishments that she went to seeking employment about her situation and that this would only be on a temporary basis and Hooters was the first offer. Unfortuantly she did not have the luxery of sitting around while bills piled up to wait for that “Highly Educated Sisters of the Nazarene” job to come available.
Most places are looking to fill their billots with full time permanant employees.
What's wrong with the name? What do you have against owls?
Mark
Well, you're staring at about the biggest boob I've ever known every time you look in the mirror!
Mark
Your daughter is having a rough time of it with a child so sick in the hospital. Shift work allows her a lot more leeway in seeing her baby. Remember she does not have to justify choosing the welfare of her child above the opinions of others.
I will pray for your grandchild’s recovery and for your daughter as she goes through this very sorrowful time.
>> You know, I have a niece who served for a couple of years as a hostess at Hooters.
I think you guys that are jumping down nmh’s throat might be suffering from ADD. We can take the defense of Hooter chics to the level of honorable successful strippers but I’m guessing that’s not what the issue is really all about, is it?

Is this directed to me ?
