I always found that Jesus’ willingness to die for humanity to be more beautiful than his Resurrection. Of course, Jesus as God could rise from the dead, but the fact that He was willing to become human, suffer, and die a horrible death was the real miracle. In that vain, I think that Harry’s sacrifice was somewhat cheapened because there was an “opt-out” clause attached to it. I just went and reread The Forest Again, and the last three chapters, especially the ridiculous Disney epilogue, lessened the impact of Harry’s “death.”

Well, as a Christian, Christ’s death doesn’t mean much without the Resurrection since that’s the triumph. The hero dying for his people is a wonderful dark-tragic, vaguely Norse-feeling myth. The hero rising again and ruling, that’s the Christian part.
