Especially since Harry himself had faced the Dark Lord eight separate times. (by my count anyway: As a baby, “The Sorcerer’s Stone,” “The Chamber of Secrets,” “The Goblet of Fire,” “The Order of the Phoenix” and 3 times in “The Deathly Hallows.”)

She trying to avoid being trapped into writing endless sequels...

But she DID leave herself an opening for a sequel.

Harry put the Death Wand back in Dumbledore's tomb. Ron and Hermione know where it is, which provides three people who can let it slip. Once a Dark Wizard knows about it, and that he can have the most powerful wand in the wizarding world by digging it out and then killing Harry, you have the plotline for a new novel

Yes, but OTOH, there are loads of things that make you weird...

Uh oh, I've let too much of the real me spill out onto this board...

Rowling left the door WIDE open for at least one and possibly 2 additional series. If there is a 19 year gap between the end of the Second Battle of Hogwarts and Harry seeing his youngest son off to school there, that's plenty of room for Tales of Harry the Auror, Hermione the Magical Social Worker, Ginny the Healer, Ron the Ministry wonk, etc, etc.

There's also a potential for tales of James, Rose, Albus, Hugo, Lily and Cousin Teddy.

I totally agree. I think JK Rowling left out a lot of details in the epilogue so that she can continue the series eventually. Also, when I read the last few pages of the last chapter, I thought immediately that she was setting up a sequel. All the talk about the stone he left in the forest and the Elder Wand seemed out of place and insignificant for the critical last few pages for an epic journey that spans 7 books over the course of 7 years.

The last few pages of the story after Voldemort was killed seemed very rushed to me. Basically, Harry kills Voldemort and goes upstairs with Hermoine and Ron, they chat a bit, and then it's over. It's like JK Rowling ran out of steam.

I don't think we've seen the last of Harry Potter and his pals.

Heh, his and his father's names were taken from the names of constellations, Draco the Dragon and Scorpius the Scorpion.

Ah, but as a personal reminder of Voldemort and the Dark Side, Malfoy had to be a dragon.

Rowling had strongly hinted that knowing the Bible would tell you how it would end, and there's one place only in the New Testament where dragons are mentioned.

Look at Revelation 12 and subsequent. If you want the plot of Book 7, there it is....

I suspect she is planning a series based on the kids.........who was Victoire? Bill and Fleur’s child? And Draco’s son Scorpius? What’s with that name? LOL

Not one mention of the Dursleys’ survival.

I think it was implied because 1) they weren't mentioned and 2) Dudley's recognition of Harry before they left.

They never figured into the action in the wizarding world.

What I wonder is about the Elder Wand... I mean... I thought it was supposed to be undefeatable but it can only be passed down by defeating the owner? Huh?

Undefeatable in a duel. But Grindelwald stole it. Dumbledore handed it over to Malfoy. So apparently you have to win it by something other than a straight-up duel. And that's the point, I suppose: there are things stronger and more effective than the pure force that the Elder Wand represents.

Dumbledore’s mother and sister both died of, at best, involuntary manslaughter but it doesn’t seem the Ministry ever came after anyone.

kinda like the Vince Fosters of the wizarding world...

Did he lose his broom too in that scene? (with Hedwig?)

Ooo...I'll have to go back and check, but I think you are right.

My favorite line in the first book was “Are you a witch or aren’t you?” from Ron when he was being attacked by the plant, and in this one, Hermione got to yell “Are you a wizard or aren’t you?”

By happy circumstance, I had just finished Book 1 before I started reading Book 7. It was amazing to me how many of the events in the last book referred back to the first. There were so many of them....

I was seriously struck by this when they cam to the riddle at the door of Ravenclaw's common room -- "What came first, the phoenix or the flame?" And the answer: "a circle has no beginning or end."

I assume that Victoire was Bill and Fleur's daughter. Teddy would have been 19 so I assume she was in her final year at Hogwarts in order for him to be snogging her without upsetting Ginny or Hermione.

Draco was named after a constellation and one of his aunts was as well. (Andromeda) Scorpio (Scorpius) is a constellation. Must be a star thing amongst the Black family.

Neville is Professor of Herbology at Hogwarts. I want him to be married to Luna, and I want them to dance. A lot.

Nope ... It's Luna and Dean Thomas. They were becoming an item at Shell Cottage, and they left the common room for the last battle, hand in hand.

That seems about right, really.

Yes, every Black who is named in the books (except Narcissa?) is named for a star or constellation.

It's been stressed a number of times how LV could almost always detect a lie--"The Dark Lord always knows!"

But he's clearly vulnerable in this book -- Harry is in his mind all the time; Voldemort's occlumency is not up to snuff, his emotions having got the better of him. He's so exultant about "winning," that he forgets to check anybody else. His carelessness and lack of control did him in.

And as the book said, Narcissa knew that lying to Voldemort was the only way to get back to her son, whom she loved. Her love for Draco was stronger than her fear of Voldemort. It would have made her lie impenetrable. And so, interestingly, it was love even within his inner circle that helped to do him in.

The name “Albus Severus” had me in tears... is that sappy or what?

You don’t know how feverently I was hoping Snape’s name would get cleared... that was a fabulous tribute.

And Alan Rickman will always be Snape to me. He’s been doing a fabulous job. I can’t picture anyone else in the role.

The scene was sort of an inside view of Aslan's mindset as he went to the stone table. VERY similar imagery.

I hadn't thought about that. And in both cases, they are accompanied most of the way by the comforting presence of friends.

Of course, God could resurrect Himself... He is after all the Supreme Being; He can do anything He chooses. What is more of a beautiful miracle to me is that He would want to suffer and die for humanity.

Yes, but Harry is not Jesus Christ. He was willing to die for his friends -- we can have no greater love than that -- and Dumbledore said he had the choice to go on, or go back.

Rather than go on, where it was easy, Harry chose to go back, where it was hard, because the job was not yet finished. No greater love....

Victoire must be a year or more younger, as no pregnancy was mentioned at all.
