But what bedwetter would run to mommy after receiving a private insult? This is really a change in FR.

At any rate, it hardly compares with accusing an American serving in Iraq with treason because he might vote for a less than perfect Republican over Hillary Clinton.

The complaint by the individual attacking RA specifically referred to the private Freepmail, not the posts you cited.

None the less, if someone wishes to complain about RA's posted comments using that sort of language, then consistency demands they also get upset at the 600+ instances of the same word being used in other posts on FR that are still up for all to see.

The occasional use of profanity by a long-time poster on FR has never been grounds for banning.

Interesting. I already thought the “get stuffed” comment was way out of character for RA. I have to confess that I thought you might have gotten that quote from another site that misquoted him, until I looked it up.

RA and I have talked about online tone - He’s a genuinely nice, generous, smart, good communicator who apparently really lost his online temper on April 5. That’s gonna happen sometimes. And he certainly wasn’t/isn’t the only one - it almost never happens in a vacuum.

As for science...

There are all kinds of topics that can be key to understanding the news of the day: law, history, religion, economics, medicine and science etc.

Non-science folk may feel as bored in the pure science threads as I feel when my wife tries to share a 50 page thread on some aspect of scrap booking.

But its really good for a news discussion forum to have folks around who are knowledgeable about key topics, particularly when they are open about their identity and we can check their credentials.

I don’t get involved in forum administration and I don’t know what went on privately in this case but I hope on a going forward basis we can appreciate the benefit when we get conservative experts in relevant fields.

I’ll add to the collection. This is from a freepmail that *I sent* trying to inform one of those asking questions. I guess it didn’t help as this conversation continues.

FYI, I don’t know RadioAstronomer at all — I also don’t remember ever seeing any of his posts. But, relative to his zot.... There was a long thread going at darwincentral at the same time as the FR thread. Posters were coming from Darwin, getting zotted, and then going back and celebrating.

The 2 times out of 20,000 posts that RA ever used words such as these, and that's all you guys can talk about? Shoot...there are posts with foul language on this thread that are almost as bad, made by the owner of the site and members alike! The second time was only because he hit the post button twice, by accident.

He is a good friend to many here. If he knew someone was struggling, he was there for them. (as he was for me and my kids a couple years ago)
