DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

It’s not necessarily a Freeper adding those keywords.

Anyone, including a DU troll, can add a keyword. I’ve seen some doozies in my time here. I hit abuse and alert the mods to the really foul ones.

Sounds like Rudy bots. I was attacked on a Rudy thread once for voicing skepticism about him. Hell, Ill probably end up voting for him if he is the candidate, but some folks here have already knighted, crowned and canonized him to the point where anyone who questions his conservative credentials is an idiot..

To tell you the truth...I haven’t even lurked on candidate threads for a while because of the childish taunts and name-calling.

I know that I am adult enough to make up my own mind..I don’t need to be spammed to death...and anyone that puts those infantile keywords on any thread deserves a suspension, IMHO.

keywords are uncalled for

I use them all the time when searching for articles on a particular topic.

And to be technical, mainstream Christianity does consider Mormonism to be a cult. The word has bad connotations, but if taken as a neutral term, that is what Mormonism is considered by many denominations of Christianity.

What is your religion?

Personally I find the “RapesKids” label about 100 times more offensive than a “WarProfiteering” label, although both are slanders.

I hope abusive labellers get banned. That is beyond the pale.

I think your thread to be overkill, just complain to the mods, have the offending posts and or keywords removed and be done.

First debate in May. Should be interesting.

That calls for another BUMP.

Admittedly I try to avoid those threads too, but from time to time I speak up when I feel certain posts are out of bounds.

I believe the moderators can tell who adds keywords

I can recall several instances over the past couple of years, of games being played with keywords. Some appeared intended to harass a particular poster, some were meant to discredit a particular author, topic or political figure, and some were added by the person who posted the article, in an effort to gain sympathy ... playing a sort of "keyword victim." Not only do the mods know who added the keywords, they are able to identify them by IP address, if need be.

When George Romney was Gov of Michigan the Detroit Free Press was equally as vile and when Gov G. Romney announced that he was running for the Presidency oh brother did the Old Media go DU about his having been born in Mexico. They (the Old Media) forgot to mention that it was as a result of his parents being there as the US Ambassador and Wife to Mexico and then they had the audacity to be Mormon,... how dare anyone defend them.

It takes all types no matter what the endeavor and sometimes the wrong types get prominence. When that happens their ego gets the best of them.

That’s so stupid and childish. There are a lot of candidates I don’t plan to support but I don’t think any of them are the antichrist.
