Thing is, for us dinosaurs who were brought up with the music of the 1950s-1970s, Melinda made some real smart choices. She can do Tina Turner and Whitney Houston justice....who else can? Even if she goes, she has a career with the over-the-hill crowd, and we're the ones who will give her a long and successful career, since we buy CDs and don't mind shelling out some bucks to go to a concert in a mid-size venue....casino theatres, restored concert halls, etc. Not going for the fickle youth fan base might actually give her a longer career.
I have no horse in this race, they all are very good. I tend to side with the marketability of the talent, I have never bought an Idol CD and probably never will but if I had to give a contract to a pop star I believe looks would play a part in that. i know that’s shallow but it’s part of the Hollyweird culture unfortunately.
