No one knows people in America are starving.

NO ONE in this great and bountiful land is starving unless (1) they are not providing for themselves, (2) don't know how to work the welfare and charity system, and/or (3) their parents or caregivers are not doing #1 or #2.

Yeah, we never made the same designs as on the Etch-a-Sketch box. Stairs, big deal! I had another game where you used protractors and all sorts of rulers and colored ballpoint pens and you were supposed to make all these fancy designs. Another letdown. The best were the Creepy Crawler makers where you could create jewelry, daisy flowers, etc. What was that called?

BUT, I don’t like being manipulated into giving.

Exactly!!

If Idol is going to shovel this particular kind of BS every season, then this is the last season I will be watching.

Being on the West Coast, I haven't watched the show yet. But I agree totally. Earth to AI producers -- we tune in to be entertained, not to be harangued by limousine liberals and their entirely phony "give back" schtick.

Yes - it's the enactment of Gordy's story about Lardass and the Pie-eating Contest.

It ends badly.

Sometimes people fall on hard times and they need some help. I’ve got no problem helping them or helping the helpers (giving money or time). But I don’t like how they are making it seem like if we don’t give money to AI we killing people. Or that AI is doing God’s work by having Celine Dion and Elvis begging people for money.

Did you hear Ryan say, “It could be the most important call you’ll ever make”? Judging by the look on his face even he thought it was stupid the second it was out of his mouth. He should have said, “Barring 911 calls, because those are pretty important.”

Well, call her and tell her to duck!

(I’m sure she’ll listen, just like my kids do.)

Denton also got whalloped earlier today.

Txsleuth, you’re in Arlington, right? They’re saying that storm will skirt us to the north, but better watch in case it stays on the eastward course. Nasty afternoon.

Yes. And when that happens, you learn to work the system to obtain help. There are charities and government agencies galore to help if you are in such difficulty that you can't put food on the table. I don't mean to sound hard-hearted, but it's a fact that if you can speak up for yourself in this country, there's no reason why you can't eat, have a clean place to stay and get other assistance to get back on your feet.

Keep babbling...we’re thinking of you and yours. I loved pick-up sticks and jacks, too. And we could keep ourselves busy for hours with our Duncan yo-yos. Mine was a yellow butterfly and I could do “walk the dog” pretty well.

You would think from tonight’s show that Simon Cowell is the one who discovered poverty in Africa.

There have been Christian missionaries in Africa for at least two centuries, trying to make life better for the people there.

And doing a darned good job.

My own daughter is in Africa, married to a Lutheran missionary. They’ve been there for twenty years, working hard to bring a better life to the people.

If I want to help out in Africa, I can (and do) give through my Church, and also directly to my daughter and son-in-law for their projects to fight poverty and illiteracy in Africa.

I don’t need Celine Dion or Ryan Seacrest to lecture me about poverty anywhere in this world.

lol...it’s a he and he’s at his girlfriends apt. Just talked to them and they’re ok. Hail, winds and tons of rain. Flooding is happening and some roofs off of a restaurant, earlier. Other sons are in Dallas and Plano. I can worry about them, next! And we’re about to get hit from a big storm south of us.

I need wine...

Wine, a radio, and a nice interior room ;-)

My farm is just north of Denton, and the roof was totaled in the high winds last month. I’ll have to go take a look tomorrow to see how we fared today.

My sons in Houston, Plano, and College Station just roll their eyes at me. Can’t wait till they have kids of their own and begin to understand.

We’re near I-30 and 360, just high wind so far today. Stay safe.
