Dang! DialIdol is showing Chris Sligh and Stephanie Edwards taking up the bottom two slots -- consistently. SANGAYA iS #3 !!!!!! HOW does that happen? I know Chris didn't do well tonight, but Sangaya was SO much worse!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
Just reading through the thread. LMAO! You guys were hilarious tonight! Had to miss the thread, too much going on here at home.
A few thoughts...
Just when I thought Suckjaya couldn't get any gayer, he did. It's astounding his ability to outgay himself each week. The hair-WTF? The dancing-WTF? and I think he had on lipstick!
I usually like Blake, tonight I hated it.
I was willing to give Chris R. the benefit of the doubt, but tonight he sucked so bad and pretty much proved he really is a bad Justin Timberlake wannabe. He couldn't carry a note at all tonight.
I felt bad for Kathy Lee. She had good moments in the song and she looked beautiful. But, in comparison to the other girls, bad.
Gina DID NOT take Ms. Ross's advice. I didn't understand several words in the song. Mediocre at best.
At this point, this is a three person race. Melinda, Lakisha, and Jordin. Everyone else might as well climb on the bus now. The guys simply are not good enough.
This is Melinda's to lose, IMO.
I think Jordan should win it. She's much more the Idol type. Lakisha amd Melinda should place 3rd and 4th so they can then go out and make records without the AI/19E Bullsh*t. Ask Daughtry how going 4th did for him.
Sangina is getting votes from Indians and there are certainly heavy concentrations in metro areas. California is huge for them.
Sligh is a good singer but he has no clue on what the hell he is doing. He has no style, no arrangement skills or clue in how to pick songs.
I'm catching up on the dvr. It seems to me part of the problem tonight is Diana Ross. She gave them absolutely no constructive criticism or help. Remember last season the weeks with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli. They really pushed them all and made them do better. Diana Ross didn't get enough respect from them for them to take her advice! They are new at this, the new stage totally ate them for lunch, they could have used a firmer hand. That's my only explanation for why they are all so bad tonight! Even Melinda, who brought tears to my eyes with her voice, picked such a bad song. It's so disappointing so far.
What, no west coasters up late tonight? Ok, I'm just going to give my quick perceptions of the things I liked. I know the east coasters didn't like Kiki's dress, but I thought she looked wonderful. Phil wasn't as bad for me as you all thought he was. I vote for him because he's Navy and he has a sweet smile. Blake was awful but I bet a lot of people are going to like that. But most of my voting time went to Melinda and LaKisha. I think I gave 10 minutes each to Phil and Jordin. Overall it was a really boring night. The music was boring and only three of them did well, only one of them was spectacular. It was worth it to see how bad Sanjaya and Chris R. actually were after seeing what the east coasters said about them. It was even worse than I imagined it would be. How, how, how did Sanjaya make the top 12???? It's criminal, it really is. See you all next week!
I didn't see anyone mention that Howard Stern totally pimped up the VoteForTheWorst website on his radio show, and told all his listeners to join them in voting for Sanjaya.
Brandon -- Is it possible for a black guy to be pure vanilla. He's got an OK voice, but zero charisma and interest. Bland.Melinda -- She's a great talent, but tonight was what passes as an off night for her. Poor song choice. She either needs to show a more contemporary side to her repertoire, or convince 2007 Americans to like 1940's song stylings. I actually put her third tonight for those reasons.
Chris S. -- Rough tonight. This guy needs to break away from ballads and do some up tempo stuff. He's becoming more and more boring as the weeks go by. He sings like he sees himself as Cary Grant, but has he looked in the mirror lately?
Gina -- This year's Nikki McKibben.
Sanjaya -- Horrid in every way: looks, hair, personality, showmanship...oh yeah, and singing. Has no power to his voice, no phrasing, rushes his songs, is not convincing in any way. I was thinking that this year no one is the complete package (looks, vocals, stage presence, charisma) when they flashed the banner on screen with Sanjaya's name and phone number. Twice they placed it in such a way that the eye flickered to what accidentally was centered on the screen just above the banner. Cough...speaking of packages, Sanjaya doesn't appear to have one.
Haley -- The anti black diva. The anti heavy chick. The anti talented vocalist. Not even good enough to be the female version of Brandon, because she doesn't rise to the level of pure vanilla. Too bad. This season really needs an infusion of eye candy.
Phil -- Thank goodness for makeup. At least the guy didn't look like he needs a transfusion. There are times when he edges toward having a really good voice, but he's untrained and has acquired some really bad vocal habits. Every time he sings, I am distracted by thinking that bald simply doesn't work for him.
LaKisha -- Probably the best performance of the night. She's got that black gospel sound and urban dialect to her vocals, and I thought tonight was a good attempt to break away from that when she took on one of the classic blues songs. She's got a bit of a lisp, and she pronounced child as chi, but still a marvelous performance.
Stephanie -- Suffers in comparison with Melinda, LaKisha and Jordin, for a good reason. She simply isn't as talented.
Blake -- Probably still the best of the guys. I didn't think his performance was quite as bad as the judges made it out to be (aren't they always telling the contestants to "make it their own"). But Blake really needs to break away from his white hip-hop schtick. He's better than that. Besides, hip-hop/rap and that whole urban genre is not selling as well as it used to.
Chris R. -- I don't get seasick on a boat sailing on my beloved Pacific Ocean, but I get seasick watching this guy bob up and down all over the stage. He does something that's common in pop music these days...sings through his nose. He's a bad a Justin Timberlake wannabe, as most of us have observed before tonight.
Jordin -- Because of her youth and inexperience, I give her lots of points over Melinda and LaKisha. For that reason, I put her performance 2nd tonight. This girl is almost the whole package. The camera loves her. She's got a wonderful, but untrained voice, and if she was thinner, she'd be a total knockout.
Still shaping up to be a two woman race.
1.Melinda(didn't care for the song, but even though I rate LaKisha and her close in vocal talent, I think Melinda is a better performer)
2.LaKisha(not really the type of song that she's best at but I liked it. Hints of Dinah Washington in her singing tonight)
3.Jordin(not as impressive vocally as M & L but a nice change from them both. Since I'm not especially attached to anyone to root for yet, I think I'm just going to root for Jordin--seems like a nice kid, and M & L most likely have it made career-wise no matter what happens in the competition)
4. Phil(nice to see him bounce back after last week's performance)
5. Chris S.(still, of the guys, the voice that I'd prefer to listen to)
6. Stephanie(not a good night for her but it doesn't take much to make it to the middle of the pack with some of the contestants who are still in)
7. Blake(didn't much care for that song for Blake or what he did with it)
8. Haley(the type of song she should be singing. Has a nice enough voice that if she is a quick learner, she could hang around a while)
9. Gina(knew Dianna Ross was going to be a tough week for her. Hope she gets a chance to sing some songs that play to her strengths before she gets voted off)
10. Brandon(biggest disappointment of the group. Seems to have some charisma but only when he's not singing)
11.Sanjaya(still don't like him but at least he got away from that whispery style a little and actually opened up a bit this week)
12. Chris R.(I agree completely with Simon. I give Chris credit for "going for it" but I can barely listen to that nasally voice of his)
Who will get booted off: Probably Brandon
Who I'd like to have booted off: Sanjaya
I can't wait for zabasearch to get their charts into the fray. I pick the same top 3 that you do. I thought Jordan did very well last night and was glad she brought her A game.
Like you I think stinkgaya on the whole was the worst of the lot and should go. I think Phil did pretty good and earned another week. Chris R is on pretty shakey ground but Brandon did forget the words. So, I'm with you picking Brandon to go home, ONLY because they seem to be playing us by keeping stinkgaya in there. He never should have made it to the top 24. imo
Ok... I only got to watch part of the show last night (first nine contestants) before sleep took precedence.
Suffice it to say, I was underwhelmed.
Starting at the top, Melinda certainly has the pipes, but she looks like a fish out of water 99% of the time (i.e., whenever she's not actually performing). Even while she's performing, she looks a bit tentative, as if she doesn't know how to deal with the limelight.
Lakisha... I'm not as sold on her as the rest of y'all, from previous weeks comments. Big voice, yada, yada... she managed the stage and cameras well tonight. But that was second only to Sligh in terms of butchering an arrangement. Way, way too much affectation and pointless "coloration" -- this was one of the worst renditions of that song I've ever heard, despite the singing being technically sound, for the most part.
Phil was the only guy I saw who really delivered a good vocal performance... there's still something about him that irks me every time I see him, and for the life of me, I can't place a finger on what it is.
Sligh and Blake tried to modernize things, with similar, though slightly different results. Sligh's just didn't work, whereas Blake... no matter what you think of Blake's singing, he's going to go out and do his "thing". If enough people like that...
Brandon, Haley -- please learn the words. Not that these were good performances despite that. Vocals aside, Haley's stage performance can be summed up in three words: "drunk karaoke chick"
Can Sanjaya get any more creepily like Michael Jackson? This song was WAY, WAY too big for him. Of course, on this stage, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" is probably too big for him.
I can't comment on Gina, since I lost about 80% of her performance due to reception glitches. The current look is good for her, though.
I was kind of thinking "meh", actually. She played it very safe, backed off the big notes. It's as if she knows she can coast for a few weeks.
Interesting... I'm surprised no one thought of this sooner, because they're right, the target audience is exactly the same.
I need to add that to my "stalker" playlist, along with songs like:
No bet. I think she's got the best mix of talent, personality, and the "pop" factor that AI is designed to look for.
Thanks for your recap. You noticed some things that I missed ;)
Cough...speaking of packages, Sanjaya doesn't appear to have one.
LOL! If he does, he plans on having it surgically removed :)
Gina -- This year's Nikki McKibben.
Ouch ... I think Gina has a shade more talent than McKibben, but I do see the similarities.
Melinda -- She's a great talent, but tonight was what passes as an off night for her.
I agree. Looking back on the show, it seemed to be an off night for everybody--the performers, the audience, the band, the judges. They all need to calm down a little.
And Suckjaya needs to GO!!!
Just when I thought Suckjaya couldn't get any gayer, he did. It's astounding his ability to outgay himself each week. The hair-WTF? The dancing-WTF? and I think he had on lipstick!
You had me at "WTF?" LOL!
At this point, this is a three person race. Melinda, Lakisha, and Jordin.
I think so too. Jordin was the only one that surprised me (in good way) last night. If she keeps surprising us, she might go all the way.
And just as annoying.
