Good show overall. High quality songs usually result in that on Idol. Didn’t think anyone did horribly tonight.

Ranking them:

1. Melinda—Just damned good. If she can manage to get a little youth appeal going she’ll win it going away this year. Even if she doesn’t she’ll probably still win.

2. Jordin—Another fine performance from her. Dunno why she doesn’t seem to have much of a fan base. Still have a feeling she’s going to be leaving way too soon.

3. LaKisha—It was not one of her better performances, but the girl can still belt. Sticking that tacky little ending on a classic was STUPID.

4. Blake—Agree with whoever said he reminded them of Bobby Darin and agree with the judges that he turned in a cool performance.

5. Chris R—Thought it was his best so far. I’m actually sort of looking forward to hearing him on the Country music theme show if he makes it that far.

6. Phil—Just sang the notes. Thought it was a flat, emotionless performance. When Phil is “on” he’s pretty good, but he’s not “on” nearly often enough.

7. Haley—Not very good singing but an okay performance. Stagey but entertaining. Agree with the person who said it was disjointed.

8. Gina—Thought that was one of her worst efforts. Bad theme night for her though, and she probably did about as well as she could with the genre. Doubt she’ll be voted off this week, so hopefully she’ll get a chance to recover.

9. Sanjaya—Tolerable this week and not just as a novelty act. Weak voice but he actually can sing a bit.

Who should go: Still Sanjaya
Who will go: Phil(if not Phil then Haley)

Tradsport had Blake going home last week. I would not give them much confidence.

Great American Songbook... definitely a chance to see who can really sing, and who can't. Not that there were many surprises on this score, but hopefully some of the voters will see through one or two of the weaker (*cough* Sanjaya *cough*) singers based on this.

It was no surprise to me that Melinda, Lakisha, Blake, and Jordin did very well with their songs. Clearly the top tier for the night here.

In the middle tier, we have Chris, who sang what I personally saw as a mess (where's the melody, dude?) but seemed to get rave reviews from the judges. I did like the stage presence/personality he put into it, though. Phil, the other middle-tier contestant last night, sang much better from a technical sense, but the song was dull and had none of the emotional response it should have.

On the bottom tier reside Haley and Gina. Haley is playing up the "sex kitten" angle, but she just doesn't have the chops (it really showed in the tempo change, where she sounded like she was floundering); give her credit for working the audience abut 100 times better than Sligh did a few weeks ago, though (what a difference eye contact makes!). Gina, admittedly not in the best style for her, was inconsistent and didn't deliver on the emotional response either.

Of course, below all that is Sangria... er... Sanjaya. He didn't sing it well, and he didn't look good moving around. Dancing with Paula was a nice touch to please his 12-year-old girl fans, but it hurt his singing even that much more.

Bottom 3 prediction: Haley, Gina, Phil
Who will go: Phil or Gina

Do you have a “Fantasy Island” fetish?

LOL. Not a fetish, no... but you may be on to something. Why didn't Simon call it cabaret, then? He missed a golden opp.

I thought he was funnily charming.

Okay, okay... I never said he was "American Idol".

UNCLE!!!

P.S. Love the new tagline. LOL!

That was amazing. I recorded it for my husband. Glad I did. I told him if anyone started talking about the show to get away from them. LOL. It’s just better to see for yourself.

Really? I started the tape early for House. I’m not sure if I caught her performance on it. I may go back & check. I really didn’t like it. And then the lip thing just killed it.

One of the best episodes in I don’t know when. I think there were a lot of teary eyes last night.

You could tell that he was affected by that ‘tumor’ trying to wrap his fingers around his index finger.

“I could have done without that poochy lips thing Lakisha did at the end.”

Tony Bennett advised LaKisha to end her song with the big note - she did - then she added a line not in the song “Aint No Sunshine When you’re Gone” which did not fit. Sorry, I didn’t like it.

Gina won’t win but I like the heart she puts into her songs - she feels the lyrics! “Smile” is a heartbreaking song but with a touch of hope - she conveyed that.

I like Phil a lot too but I’m afraid he is gone this week.

Haley is very pretty and I think when she is voted off and relaxes and doesn’t worry about “judge’s comments” she would be great entertaining the troops at a USO tour as someone suggested here.

Sunjaya - good grief what can one say!

I missed Blake’s song but if he did not sing “Mack The Knife” the way Bobby Darin did with the right understanding of what the song was about - maybe it wasn’t explained to him properly. I do think he has song stylist ability making the song his own type of thing, but you also have to understand the composer and lyrist’s meaning when they wrote the song.

Jordin is a little Judy Garland - so talented for someone so young and I bet she wins. Can you imagine if she released an album of “Judy favorites” - how beautiful that would be. Kinda like when Linda Ronstadt sang the old classic love songs years ago with Nelson Riddle conducting. I still remember how wonderful that was to listen to.

Melinda is a young Sarah Vaughn with a touch of Anita Baker. Regarding how she looks, plenty of talented female singers haven’t been the best looking but it is their voices you enjoy.

Chris Richardson is cute and he really tries but he is outsung here.

Jordin was the winner last night IMO.

Blake and Melinda were good +.

Gina was good.

Haley...uuummmmm wasn’t impressed with her singing. Never have been. Rather karaoke, IMO. Same for Chris, altho he had a great week this week.

Lakisha...I think the same of her as Simon says about Phil, there is no connection, no joy. Great singing, but it seems, to me, that she is rather robotic.

Phil...I’d say he’s gone tonight, altho it should be Sanjiaya...Phil should go higher then he will, but he’ll never be the winner.

At this point I’m hoping Jordin wins, the rest I would place:
2. Melinda
3. Blake
4. Gina
5. Lakisha
6. Chris
7. Phil
8. Haley
9. Sunjiaya

Dancing with Paula was a nice touch to please his 12-year-old girl fans, but it hurt his singing even that much more.

Even Paula didn't seem too happy about it afterwards.

I think Haley or Phil will get the boot tonight. (Please not Gina!)

Not sure anyone remembers, but I found it interesting that last night really was the best night since the 12 finalist were picked. Last year when they did the standards with Rod Stewart it was a great night, everyone did really well.

Funny what good music does for singers:) I love the standards, and have been playing the Rod Stewart albums ever since last year.

It was a FANTASTIC House last night. One of their best. I can’t wait to watch it again (I tape it). I put it right up there with the one with the little terminal cancer girl.

Good thing it was a older fetus though...this wouldn’t have worked if it was 10 weeks.
