It's rigged. How else can you explain what just happened??

It is NOT a singing competition. It is a popularity contest with pre-teens and middle schoolers probably making up 80% of the vote.

Did you vote? How many times?

I've been rooting for Jordin to win this whole thing for the last 8 or 10 weeks, but I haven't voted for her once. I'll leave the voting up to the maniacs and middle schoolers.

Jordin is versatile (much more versatile than Melinda), she is as cute as a button and I don't think I have ever heard a 17 year old kid with as much maturity in her voice as Jordin has. She could sing the phonebook and it would sell records.

I wouldn't dream of voting. Not my thing.

But I watched it every week LOL!

I'm picking Blake to win.

Why don’t they bring him a nice vest? Or a hoodie.

Now that you mention it, in twelve years I have never seen my husband in a hoodie or a vest. Or a Members Only jacket. Someone is seriously out of fashion step here, and I'm not sure who.

Then don't pretend it is rigged. It's not.

People who like Melinda's kind of music are like you and me. We wouldn't dream of voting. It's not our thing. We're "mature".

That same curse happened to Chris Daughtry. Those who thought he was the best singer in the competition (and he was) just couldn't bring themselves to call that number. Rockers and x-gens just don't engage in such juvenile behavior.

This competition will be settled by the middle schoolers and pre-teens. I think Blake has the edge with that crowd. Jordin appeals to old fogeys like me. I don't vote.

Fred Thompson is from Tennessee too! Anyone see him “bitch slap” Michael Moore?

Yeah! That was great--watched it several times :) I really want Fred to be the next president.

Okay, I completely missed this. Is it something I can watch on YouTube?

Wow. I'm 49 and spent two hours voting for Blake.

GAH!!! Aw, geez... just saw the show. I can’t believe Blake made it into the final. Jordin should win this in a walk — but this does indeed beg the question, has AI jumped the proverbial shark? Or will this simply be referred to later on as “that sucky season,” a blip amongst many more successful years?

I’m afraid it has jumped the shark. The reason the show sucked this year was because the judges (read: Simon) were trying too hard to pick marketable contestants instead of simply picking real talent. Real talent will always shine through, but marketing is unreliable. But AI will not recover unless the judges have learned their lesson, and I’m going to bet they haven’t.

Sigh. Too bad. I sure did enjoy LAST season!

Uh, it’s Florida Marlins...
and Seattle Mariners.
Not much into Baseball, I guess!
LOL!

I looked through the Thread before AI even aired where I live so the outcome... I was prepared to hear/see.

But I didn’t want to comment until I saw the brodcast myself.

I will continue to watch the show as many years it lasts because every seaon brings with it fresh talent;new hopefuls.Cream of the crop vs steam from the crap...

It’s fun to see which ones belong in what catagory!
I wouldn’t want to stop watching and miss out on hearing the Phil’s;Kelly’s;Chris’;Carrie’s;Ellot’s;Taylor’s;Sundance’s;Melinda’s ;Jordin’s etc...That have perpetuated this great concept/idea that is A I.

& I’d also miss this awesome Thread if I didn’t continue to watch.../if the show is no more...

But I’m not one who is thinking that A I has “jumped the shark.”

No worries!

A I and This awesome Thread are both far from final encore/exit status...

I know we have one more week, and then tons of filler the night of this years Finale...

I’m just so over the blah ditty blah of this season is all...Have been ready for this season to be over since You know who got voted off...

Gearing up for next batch/next season!!

Ping it on JONNY!

Oh, forgot to mention ... it was terrific to see and hear Elliot! But boy, those teeth are blinding, aren’t they? He should drink some tea and coffee and make them look a little more broken-in! ;)

I have been saying for eight weeks that Jordin would win. I still think so. I didn’t post my predictions this week, but I did say privately at home, that Melinda would be eliminated tonight. NOT because she deserves it, and NOT because the other two are (that abstract judgement) “better singers” than she is, but for a whole host of subtler reasons. Melinda came across, almost subliminally, FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, as someone who almost “didn’t belong there”. True, she is outstanding, highly polished, in a league by herself, and all that type of stuff, but psychologically , it seemed like she already WAS the winner, so what was the point in voting for her?
There was no surprise from week to week, she was consistent every week, which “on paper” looks good, but psychologically, removes the whole dimension of surprise and involvement. People who watch and vote on American Idol are flattered into believing they themselves are creating stardom for somebody. Melinda came across as somebody who already SHOULD HAVE BEEN a star, but somehow WASN’T. THAT is why she was eliminated.Jordin, on the other hand, is someone who at her tender age looks like she has unlimited potential. In twelve years, Jordin will NOT be competing against the likes of someone like herself, which is the position that 29-year-old Melinda unfortunately was in. I am not at all surprised that she was eliminated, and I think it was for those reasons. I still think Jordin will win, and have believed that for a LONG time, and I am really surprised Blake made it this far, even though his boldness and originality are unmistakable-—I underestimated the broadness of his appeal, or the tenacity of his fan-base, whichever one of those may apply.

Ok, I don't know what it is, but there is something VERY disturbing about this!

All I know about this season is I've never been so wrong about anything in my life. I said Melinda would definately win and Lakisha would be secound... Heck, I even predicted Chris Sligh would sell as many CD's as Daughtry!! Bwahahahaha! At least I know the first step to any recovery is admitting you're wrongheadedness.

So now we're going back to the "sweater vest" fad!?

Why? Because I voted, or because I didn’t vote for the person you liked?

LOL! Remember the “TayTay” voting frenzy last year? Well I guess at least we’re not old fogeys. Heard that one wasn’t even close. ;)

I started out voting for Sligh and later, Lakisha. I actually liked some of Blake’s performances, and the ones I didn’t particularly care for, I could still see where others might like it. He’s been the more creative of the three remaining (two now) and he was the only one to not sing a repeat song this week, so I gave him extra points (votes) for that! He put forth the extra effort and I rewarded that. What’s disturbing about that?
