I think Clay Aiken version was better. Tom was good, but I have a problem with him because he is not an American citizen. Maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't the American Idol be an AMerican citizen? I wouldn't have a problem with him otherwise. Is that petty of me?

No, I don't think you are wrong at all. I didn't know about this British guy until I read it here, but I was slightly annoyed with the Canadian girl who had a record deal with David Foster that fell through.

My intuition is telling me that if we are annoyed with it, then other people will be, too. I'm actually a touch surprised it's not in the rules that you must be an American citizen. You can't win a contest at Dunkin Donuts without being a citizen, but you can be the American Idol? Then again, they are a bit flexible on the rules when they want to be.

What if they are LEGAL, PERMANENT RESIDENTS and INTEND to become American ?

You need to live here for at least 5 years to be eligible to apply for citizenship.

More thoughts... this goofy guy Ian-- What's His face -- in NY actually QUESTIONED the fact that Simon is making money OFF American Idol... he didn't get far with that remark did he ?
