No, I don't think you are wrong at all. I didn't know about this British guy until I read it here, but I was slightly annoyed with the Canadian girl who had a record deal with David Foster that fell through.
My intuition is telling me that if we are annoyed with it, then other people will be, too. I'm actually a touch surprised it's not in the rules that you must be an American citizen. You can't win a contest at Dunkin Donuts without being a citizen, but you can be the American Idol? Then again, they are a bit flexible on the rules when they want to be.
Are you crazy? She looks great for being almost 60!
What if they are LEGAL, PERMANENT RESIDENTS and INTEND to become American ?
Then it wouldn't bother me, but is he doing that? I don't know. Oh well, he still sings well. :)
Re Chris Sligh: He's definitely the most interesting contestant I've seen so far (though of course they are probably holding back the real showstoppers for Hollywood Week). His voice had a very nice quality to it, but seemed a little on the weak side to me ... something that could probably be corrected with better breath control. (It might also have been nerves. Or a combination of both.) I hope he spent the time in between auditions and Hollywood losing a little weight and hitting the gym -- NOT because it would make him that much more attractive, but because strengthening his diaphragm muscles would improve his voice.
Gotta say he was pretty funny. America likes that. :)
I do love Sligh's dry sense of humor. He will be an interesting contestant to watch.
If nothing else, he will be Mr. Congeniality.
She cheated on me
multiple times
I grabbed my gun
I hope this rhymes
I pulled the trigger
and dead she be
then to kill myself,
but look at me
six feet under
is where she lies,
but I can't walk
I'm paralyzed.
lol
February 1, 2007 -- THERE is more to the tragic tale of Jamie Lynn Ward, the girl who appeared on "American Idol" Tuesday and told the judges how her father had shot her step-mother and then turned the gun on himself.
At the show's Birmingham, Alabama auditions, Ward, 17, said that she now lives with her grandmother in Reidsville, N.C. and takes care of her father who was paralyzed from the neck down after he shot himself in the throat. Some locals from Ward's hometown said yesterday they were a bit appalled that she would mention the incident on national TV.
"I live with my grandma, and my daddy's paralyzed," Ward said in her sweet drawl. "He shot himself. . . but it's okay. His wife was cheating on him, she was my step-mama, but he caught her in the act. . . so he shot her and he shot himself."
Ward's stepmother has recovered from her injuries and moved away.
"She's said that she wants to put the whole thing behind her and get on with her life," Reidsville Police Capt. Guilio Dattero told The Post yesterday.
Beverly Emory Ward was shot by James Woodrow Ward last February during a heated argument after the pair returned from having dinner with a friend, according to a police report. A highway patrolman arrived in time to see a muzzle flash from several shots fired inside the Ward home as he pulled into the driveway.
Beverly Ward did not press charges against James Ward and the the case was closed.
Jamie Lynn Ward, who was named homecoming queen this year at her high school, sang Reflections by Christina Aguilera at her audition well enough to convince Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson to send her to "Idol's" Hollywood round.
Her tale of woe seemed just as tragic as another North Carolina native turned "Idol" wannabe, Kelly Pickler. Last year Pickler's father had been serving time in jail for stabbing a
Thanks for that added info. NC can produce 'em can't we?
I see Taylor was the only guy with enough class and respect to wear a suit and tie when meeting the President of The United States, at least Elliott wore a suit.
As for the other guys, grow the hell up, how disrespectful, were you raised by a pack of wolves? Did your parents teach you anything about manners.
A little more

A press release from the Reidsville Police Department states that officers responded to a domestic disturbance about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at 2226 S. Scales St., after a concerned caller requested police check on a woman who lives there.
The release states that North Carolina Highway Patrolman R.W. Hamilton, who was the first to arrive on scene, observed a muzzle flash from several shots fired inside the home as he pulled into the driveway.
Shortly thereafter, several Reidsville officers arrived on the scene and Beverly Emory Ward, of the residence, told them her husband had shot her.
According to the release, Ward's husband, James Woodrow Ward, was found inside the house with gunshot wounds. After being treated on the scene by EMS, both were transported to area hospitals.
It was a shame she had to tell all on international TV's #1 show - all the attention now to her family and town. And I am sure all concerned had wished it could just all go away....
I wonder how many of the ones we have seen will make it to the top 24.
Good question. I need a list of the ones we've actually seen pass through to the next round. Maybe one or two will be in the final grouping - but to me the pickings have seemed very slim.
American Idol Viewers Petition To Bring Back Sixty-Four Year Old Sherman Pore
http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2007/02/american_idol_v.html
Every once in awhile, an American Idol contestant touches the hearts of Idol viewers in a special way. The latest contestant to pull off such a feat was none other than sixty-four year old Sherman Pore. Even though Sherman was 36 years over the American Idol age limit of 28, he showed up at the auditions with a petition to be an American Idol contestant.
While American Idol has let contestants over the age limit audition in the past, most of those auditions have been for comic relief. However, Sherman Pore said the reason he was auditioning was he had worked on a letter and petition to become an American Idol contestant with his lady love of twenty years while she was in the hospital because of cancer. Sherman choked up as he said, I believe that it helped her to keep a positive attitude, and I think it smoothed her passing and made it a little softer.
Before his Los Angeles audition, Sherman also revealed to the judges that his lady love had passed away two days before the auditions. Sherman sang You Belong To Me and actually proved to be one of the better singers from the Los Angeles auditions. After his audition, Sherman said I won. I am a winner.
American Idol viewers also think Sherman Pore is a winner, and they want to see more of him. Posters on the American Idol message board have started a petition of their own asking producers to bring Sherman back to perform on the American Idol 6 finale. The petition is quickly gaining steam as one of the most popular posts on the message board.
He was just adorable. I wouldn't mind seeing that.
Have you guys seen the panther on You TUbe? They get whackier every year.
