The Anti-Idol
Chris Daughtry is living a rock star's dream with a best-selling album, a huge radio hit, and legions of adoring fans. So why is this guy in such a bad mood?

Four days ago, Chris Daughtry was performing the national anthem for a shivering crowd of more than 65,000 football fans before the Bears-Saints play-off game. Today, he's singing for 50. On a Wednesday in late January, the chrome-domed singer of American Idol fame is playing a lunchtime set at the Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian. It's a heartbreaking scene: Frail kids in wheelchairs and teenagers tethered to IVs eagerly await this glimmer of celebrity in a sunny two-story atrium. When Daughtry arrives, however, he doesn't seem in a charitable mood. First he cancels the proposed Q&A session. Then, when a hospital employee asks him to sign a collage of snapshots from Idol for the hospital scrapbook, he obliges, but wonders out loud, ''How did they get all these cheesy photos?''
When a hospital administrator introduces him as ''Chris from American Idol,'' the tightly wound singer snaps. He turns discreetly to a member of his entourage and whispers, ''Are they even going to mention the album? Are they even going to talk about the band? It's just Idol,'' saying the last word with special disdain. Nonetheless, Daughtry gathers himself. He takes a deep breath, bounds up on stage, and performs two songs that delight the room.
There is more at link, but the above is interesting. Let's ses, Taylor is a bad interview and Daughtry is....
ROFLMAO!
What's to know? Twice a year they drive on road courses. Otherwise they go in circles driving heavy, noisy, rolling billboards on which sponsors spend enormous sums of money.
Unlike in other sports that have leagues and teams from different cities, all the NASCAR cup teams compete together at the same venue every week. So the sport is like a traveling soap opera. Who's up. Who's down. Who got caught bending the rules this week. Who's mad at who and why. Who smacked your favorite driver out of the race and why? Who's got a new girlfriend; a new marriage; a new baby on the way. Who's sick, dying or dead. Who caused the latest "big one," and was it really an accident.
Most drivers walk away from accidents unscathed, allowing the viewing and race-going public to indulge in their secret rooting for the "big one" with a clear conscience. Drivers do get hurt and occasionally killed, but the sport is getting safer. So when someone dies, everyone mouths the usual platitudes on such occasions, and vows to make the sport even more safe. Then the soap opera moves on.
There are almost more story lines than "As The World Turns."
The latest hot rumor is that Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelly Clarkson are a couple. The rumor is, of course, nonsense started by a supermarket rag, but it's a beaut. It has the advantage of getting tongues wagging (or, perhaps more accurately in the internet age, fingers tapping) across several different genres of web forums.
What happened to her? She was the best.
Well, they will certainly *send* the cease-and-desist letter, because they have to protect their ownership of the "American Idol" copyright or whatever. They *always* send the letter. But whether they can make it stick is a good question. If he doesn't say "American Idol" but simply "The Lost Idol," he may be able to thumb his nose at them. Hope he can! :)
LOL! If I didn't win the race, I would want to be the guy that skidded across the finish line on the roof of his car :)
Me, too. We'll have to keep tabs on you tube! :)
Here's why. Taylor's singing personality does not come thru in his album or songs. The songwriting is NOT the personality American signed up for. (Period) That's why it sux in mainstream. On the other hand you have Chris Daughtry who's album, voice, and band are kicking ass because there was no difference between (Chris) AI and (Chris) his songs.
Remember one of the things each week on AI you have to do with the "songs" chosen, is make them your own. Taylor isn't letting his true (AI) personality thru in his songs, and even if he were, I still don't think more of America want's his style over a Daughtry. I kind of suspected slighty Taylor wasn't going to be able to pull off mainstream, which is not a critism just an observation.
I picked Taylor to win in the Hollywood round, because I thought he was "refreshing". Now, the question is, how much of the songwriting is under his control?
A self-centerd prick, but everyone should have known that to begin with. He showed it several times on AI, and even in some interviews I've seen. Sometimes stars equate being a "badass" with uncouthness.
I agree! I don't know what happened. CB? Jonny?
She's one of many people that got the golden ticket to Hollywood, but then disappeared without explanation.
Idol did a terrible job of editing and arranging these shows this year. They knew in November who would be in the Top 24--they should have at least tried to focus on them during the audition shows.
That's interesting. Thanks for posting it.
LOL!!!
Bookmarking for tonight.
Who are the ones to watch? I think: Chris Sligh; Sanjaya; Phil Stacey; Blake; and Rudy.
Girls: Lakisha; Sabrina; Melinda; Gina; and Hayley Scarnato.
I don't know if I have their names spelled right. It took me weeks before I could spell "Elliott" correctly.
LOL!!! Then you spell like I do! The latest version of Firefox has a spell checker built right in. It's fabulous.
Honestly, I don't know. They showed so little of the audition phase that I don't feel like I have a good grasp on anyone yet. The only ones I feel like right now are heads and shoulders above the rest are Chris Sligh and Lakisha. Lakisha just seems to come alive on stage. Other then that, no one really stands out to me. The guys seem so cookie cutter this year. Chris, Sundance and Sanjay could all do really well just because they stand out from the rest of the group.
Taylor's Album certified Platinum in January.
The last info I had on it was that it had gone gold. I'm glad to hear it went platinum. It fell sharply out of the top 50 on Billboard, and his single is nowhere on Pop radio. The serious money for musical acts these days is in touring, and I heard Taylor will start with a club tour soon. His strength is in live performing, so if he can do well starting in these small venues and grow from there, he will do just fine.
