IMO, it's totally dumb. Women love musicians. Period. Give a guy with a bit of charisma and stage presence a guitar and a mic stand and he's HOTT. Yes, in call caps with 2 capital T's.

This is why I became a musician! If Mic (Big lips/half a tongue) Jagger can get women, then I could at least half a chance with the geeky wall flower in the corner wearing the horned rimmed glasses....

TODDDDDDD! Man, was that skit funny!

For all that is holy and precious Please, let them be a clone of Chris Sligh.., even if it's a woman!! I really would prefer a woman rocker, they actually can sing alot more tunes and look a hell of alot better in spandex!

Alright, for all those that care, which probably is going to be less than....oh let's say 0%, I told yous guys we auditioned a singer last night for my band. Before I tell you wether she was any good or not, let me say this: For about a year we've auditioned over 32 singers and not ONE was good enough for us. That either makes us incredibly PICKY and egotistical, or just downright snobs!

Well, I'm happy to inform everyone the search is NOW over!!!!!! WOOO Friggin HOOOO!

We liked her, she liked us and not only can she sing, she can she anything!!!

Voice: 8+
Singing Ability:100+
"Cuteness" Factor: 9+
Audition For AI7 Probability: 98% (A could muster)

That seems like it would hurt record sells.

I have a theory about that, too (I have a theory about EVERYTHING! LOL!). I don't think Simon can stand to be wrong. He thinks Taylor stinks and really doesn't want him to be successful. There has been near zero promotion for his record. I haven't heard his song on the radio any where. I almost think Simon wants to use Taylor as a warning to the other winners. "See what happens when you don't listen to us??"

I was just thinking about this issue. I think you might be right and there could be more.

Recall that Taylor is also a businessman and it just might be that behind the scenes Taylor won out on some things that Simon isn't happy about, besides winning AI5!

I also think this is why we have the top 24 that we do now. Look at them. If you don't pass through country singers, you won't have a country winner, if you don't pass through someone versatile with different styles, you won't have to worry about someone winning that will ultimately decide to record a different genre than what Simon wants to record.

By not showing us many of the good auditions, they can reject exceptional singers that they consider in the wrong genre of music and we won't know about it. I think Taylor's surprising win last year ticked Simon off THAT BAD!

Should be interesting to see who gets booted off next week. Nobody was very good tonight.

I hadn't watched it yet, but I'm not suprised Whitney got the boot after being "bottom two" the week before. Still going to be pulling for Josh and Zach.

Glad to hear that Angela didn't fare well with a Shania song (and that sure doesn't suprise me). She's extremely one dimensional and it's my least favorite country "type".

Very good observation. I was thinking just the other night, "did they not have any good country singers this year"? Why wouldn't they want a country singer. Arguably the "best" Idol winner so far is/will be Carrie Underwood. The girl is HUGE, and getting bigger all the time. Yes, Kelly Clarkston is still on top in total sales, but she had a 4 year head start and Carrie is catching up FAST!

I'm not saying to turn AI into a country genre, but I don't understand the complete lack of country singers.

I agree. Didn't Taylor either copyright or trademark his name before the contest so that he would have legal rights to it? I guess AI normally does that to the winners. I also remember hearing, I think it was from misterrob, that on the tour that someone (gee, I wonder who that was?? Hmmmm...) actually read the tour contract and found they had the right to see all the financial statements to make sure they weren't getting screwed. So they all demanded to see the financial info. You know that didn't make any of the higher-ups happy!

I think that this may be why they are sort of setting up Sundance to be the bad guy. His dad was in the music business and knows what to look out for. I think Simon's nightmare scenario is that another offbeat person wins. Had Chris Sligh screwed up at Hollywood week I think we would have seen the footage on a continuous loop for weeks.

Let's hope we don't find out. I hate when FR goes liberal and can't wait for the gays to come out. So much for conservatism on this thread. I thought most conservatives just want people to shut up and sing. If there are ten gays in this season's cast, I don't think that would be something we as conservatives would want to know. Am I wrong?

Perhaps there was no stand outs this year and that is why there are no country singers...just a guess.

Check this out: Matt Buckstein: The Lost Idol He was the very tall guy in the black cowboy hat. He made it to Hollywood last year and to the top 40 this year. None of his audition footage was shown this year.

For those of you on dial-up, you know who you are, he says that 1- there are NO country people in the top 24 and 2- the reason he was given for not making the top 24 was from Paula, "You have to stand out in this competition in ways other then singing." Okay, I realize Paula is nuts, but did she look at the top 12 guys?? The phrase "cookie cutter" comes to mind. The only 2 who stand out to me looks-wise are the Indian kid and the beatboxer. Oh and the asian kid.

I'm starting to agree with whoever said that by not showing us the auditions they kind of mold the contest how they want it. They get purely pop people who appeal to the tween/teen set.

I think that's very possible. Simon is allowing his ego (or his childishness) to overcome him. I also think if Simon doesn't get that ego under control it will be the beginning of the end of the show. It's been such a ratings success AI may think that they are invincible, but they're starting to monkey around with it. There's a reason they make more than one flavor of everything. Vanilla is good. Not all the time. What I see with only a couple of exceptions is very boring this time around.

Seem to recall Taylor did have some changes made in the contract. Maybe 19 was used to obedient little contestants who were willing to sign their life away for the opportunity. Taylor was more mature & had some experience in the business. But Simon needs to grow up. That bitterness does not become him. Or the show.

I remember him. I liked that guy. By doing this the country fans may very well tune out. I thought he stood out. I remembered him. LOL.

What a PC lineup this year.

I believe you are correct. It sure sounds familiar. Same with the financial statements.

I can't wait to hear them next week so we can get a feel for their styles better.

Hi Lightman. Good to see you slumming it in the Smokey Backroom : ) .

Yes, it is. I liked Matt Buckstein, too. He has that kind of "outlaw country" voice like Waylon Jennings and Hank Jr. I don't know what he is doing in CO. He needs to get his butt to Nashville.

I get the same feeling, that they are going for the tweens.

Exactly. Let's not forget that 19 Entertainment gave us the musical magic that was The Spice Girls. So when Victoria Beckham moves to LA and stars to annoy the crap out of us all (trust me, it will happen fast), thank Simon Fuller and 19!

I saw a little info about Castro (can't remember where or when) that he refused to sign the contract stating that he'd be willing to cut his hair. I *WONDER* if they have to do a lot of contract signing BEFORE the Hollywood auditions as a means of determining who TPTB can manipulate and who isn't worth the trouble. Something shows up in the "contract round" that the producers don't like--you're eliminated.

True except for Chris and Sundance. The rest are commercial pop folks near as I can tell. Something tells me this year is going to be the worst ever....
