OK. Im coming right out and saying it. A boy is totally going to win American Idol this year. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. The masculine final dozen is filled with some great characters (even if it is sorely lacking in the Jot Jenry category).
The girls? Not so much. I like Melinda Doolittle a lot, and Jordin Sparks and Lakisha are good, but the rest of them? Yawn city.
There are a lot of problems associated with the Idol Powers That Be. Out of Touch-edness seems to be one of the recent ones. However, I think there is a much more disturbing and maddening affliction affecting The Others, and its making them judge male and female contestants with different criteria. They have no problem giving a chance to some of the quirkier male contestants.
Just tonight we saw Chris Sligh and Sundance Head, two unconventional beauties, make it through to the Top 24. And the girls? No Rachel Zevita and no Tami Gosnell, or anyone else who exists somewhere outside of the neat and, most importantly, pretty little box in which the producers like to package their female contestants.
Of course, we were never given the opportunity to see those two unique ladies perform during Hollywood week, so Im fully willing to acknowledge that they might very well have sucked up the joint; but well never know, will we? We were not allowed to hear those girls sing a note after the initial audition rounds.
Now, Im sure the IPTB would argue that they certainly did put through some original ladies. Theres single mother Lakisha, who fills their big girl quota for the season (And thats not a knock on her. Shes quite beautiful and talented in her own right), and Gina Glocksen, who fills their pink-haired girl quota. Of course, weve seen both of those girls before in the forms of Mandisa and Nikki McKibbin/Amy Adams/countless others who think pink hair is edgy.
Also, Im wondering if the producers just gave up and had a couple of orangutans edit the shows this week. Yesterday was like Idol on speed and tonight was like Idol for morons. Here was their formula: If we show the person singing, they make it through; if we dont, theyre goners.
Mr. Mags found the whole episode so intriguing that he actually spent most of the time trying to find his knee reflexes with a Propel bottle.
Heres Your Top 24 (Fo Real This Time)
Boyzos:
Sanjaya Malakar
Brandon Rogers
Phil Stacy
Chris Sligh
Blake Lewis
Rudy Cardenas
Paul Kim
AJ Tabaldo
Nicholas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jarad Cotter
Sundance Head
Girlies:
Melinda Doolittle
Gina Glocksen
Haley Scarnato
Jordin Sparks
Stephanie Edwards
Leslie Hunt
Alaina Alexander
Sabrina Sloan
Lakisha Jones
Nicole Tranquillo
Antonella Barba
Ill have some more comments on the remaining contestants as the week progresses. My initial hypothesis is that AJ Tabaldo and scary facial expressions/Sarah Paulson look-alike Leslie Hunt will most certainly be going home next week, plus two more.
I posted my previous comment about little miss tawdry "Amanda" before I read your comments just now, so know one can put blame on me, or say YOU overly influenced me about the "Skank!"
I believe his song got knocked off the #1 spot by the Beatles (can't remember the song). That's not a bad way to go...
My quick thoughts after scanning this list on who will be the first ones gone:
Sanjaya (not a strong enough voice)
Brandon (ditto)
Leslie Hunt
Amy Krebs
and Jared Cotter.
All of them were not impressive in the short clips they showed. Still WAY to early to tell who the good ones are and who are the annoying ones....;-)
Not only is he great, the song writing is pretty awesome. I'm excited about this guy! New voice, good song writing.
God must REALLY favor him, "Because God likes good people." (A. "The Skank")
I hope I'm not sarcastically unjustify in posting that quote by the she devil?!
I agree. I'm still not sure why they let Sanjaya through.
This is spot on as the rest of the article. Was Tami the one from Denver, Taxi Driver, that had the Etheridge/Carley Simon, "God wants to buy you a Mecedes Benz," (Her name escapes me, frustratingly), look?
Thanks for that article!
I love this guy. Thanks for posting that.
But then I couldn't imagine Marisa being sent home either.
Can I be on the record as thinking Sanjaya will be there for quite a while. Not the next Idol but he'll last thru the first three or four rounds.
LOL! It sure seemed that way.
"Merceds Benz" - JANIS JOPLIN!!!
I suspect the young indian fella will bring lots of votes from his community, assuring his appearance for a short while.
Can you add me to your ping list for the AI thread? I never watched the show until this season and I am totally hooked. LOL =)
You sure can! :)
Just because I don't care for him, doesn't mean that someone else doesn't.

It was only several weeks ago that former American Idol 5 finalist Bucky Covington was living in Nashville with his wife Crystal and putting the finishing touches on his debut album.
While his self-titled debut country album is scheduled to drop on April 17 -- Crystal might not be there to celebrate -- as the couple announced on Tuesday that they have separated after seven years of marriage, People reported Tuesday afternoon.
"This is a difficult time for both of us and I would ask that everyone respect our privacy," said Bucky in a statement issued through Lyric Street Records, his record label.
Crystal, a nurse, and Bucky have no children together, according to People. The North Carolina country-crooner was the fifth finalist eliminated from the fifth installment of Idol and was the eighth finalist from that season to sign a recording contract. Covington released his first single, "A Different World," in January.
He really is a great song writer. I would almost put him in league with B Adams, John Resnik (Goo Goo Dolls), etc...Obviously, I'm partically biased to this "Genre," but those lyrics are great, I don't care what style they come in.
Lost in the windows of time...
In the first verse of life...
From the very first lines of the verses this song just "Burns!!!"
Someday when the sky is falling I will let you know...
Someday when my dreams are caving in I will let you know...
let you know.
That was awesome...!
I agree!!
This top 24 sure looks like they are trying to push a Britanny Spears or Timberlake type on us.
