the show would not ever be giving a reason for Akron’s elimination from the competition.

That is odd. I would think that if they were going to uninvite him to Hollywood they would have cut his audition from the final version of the San Antonio show. So they thought he had a good enough voice for the broadcast, but not to go to Hollywood? Weird.

The singer that came to mind for me was Anita Baker.

I thought the same thing.

I found this over at MJ's Big Blog (beware there are TONS of AI spoilers, so if you don't want to know, then don't go there!). Get out your hankies for this one....

Also featured on Larry King Thursday–Sherman Pore who I think may be everyone’s favorite Idol at the moment.

She helped me cook it up. About three weeks before I lost her, I found a little blurb in the newspaper that said “American Idol” was getting ready to audition. And she had been pushing me for years to do something with my singing. I would come home every night singing love songs to her.

I promised her I would [go through with the audition]. She asked me no matter what happened to her, she asked me to promise that I would go ahead with my singing and share it with as many people as possible, because I had done it for her so often.

She had ovarian cancer that metastasized everywhere. It moved pretty fast, and, you know, I used to call her at work and sing a love song to her every now and then. And one day I called her and I forgot to ask the — ask for her extension number before I started singing. About halfway through the song, the operator says, “who is this? Who is this?” And I finished the song and said, “you have just been serenaded by the phantom crooner.” Just got around the office and she laughed about it, but she didn’t tell anybody. She came home and told me that night.

Few days later, she called me and says, Karen is having a rough day today. This is her extension number. Would you call her and give her a — and she told me that night that this turned Karen’s day around. So every now and then, she would call me and I would fix somebody’s day.

Idol fans have started an online petition to get Sherman back on the show for the finale. Something tells me the petition isn’t necessary. I have no doubt Sherman will be back for the finale.

I've got to say, I really liked Paula's answer to that one guy who asked how he could change Simon's opinions that he was boring -- something to the effect of "do something that won;t bore him". Best advice she's ever given, and the guy did a good job listening.

I think so, too. Granted AI plays pretty fast and loose with the rules when they want to, but in this case it's just too bizarre. They have let people through with worse records. Taylor was arrested in college for pot possession and wasn't Bo Bice arrested and convicted twice for drug possession? It's really odd.

Ooo!! Ooo!! Check this out!!

One of those suspects, Ashlyn Carr, 19, was called in by UPD and confessed to the crime. She was arrested on Criminal Mischief charges, a state jail felony and booked into the Walker County Jail. According to Saha, the offense was cited as a felony because of the large estimated damages value of $2500.

She's the Anita Baker sounding girl who got called back for a second chance and got passed through! She's being charged with a felony. Did she get to go to Hollywood??? This happened in November. I heard the Hollywood phase ended right before the show started airing in January. Sooo...did she get uninvited to Hollywood, too??? Hmmmmm....

Obviously, Fox is totally missing out on a huge programming synergy. All the contestants that appear on AI audition and Hollywood shows should be featured on a special edition programs of America's Most Wanted..

Is Sherman the older guy who lost his lady love to cancer? I thought he has a nice voice. Not great, but really nice and mellow. I hope they do bring him back for the finale.

LMAO!

They could change the name to American Idol's Most Wanted or America's Most Wanted Idols.

I've never heard his regular speaking voice. Another FReeper told me he has a record out. He's charming...in any accent.

I thought it was an excellent (fake) British accent. Joke was on me. LOL. He is very charming.

Kelly was one of the invited performers at a recent Reba concert/tribute on one of the Country channels--she sounded great, even better than some of the bona fide Country artists.

Darn...I missed that. Time is at such a premium for me these days due to the care and feeding of my new job. :(

Also, I don't have a stove and refrigerator yet in my new place, so I have to eat at restaurants. I get home from work later than usual. Will soon be buying mid-priced ones I saw at Sears; waiting for their Presidents Day sale. Then at least I can get home around 6:00pm instead of an hour or hour-and-a-half later.

I really want to participate on this thread much more, especially as we start getting into the later rounds.

Re last night's show, no one particularly stood out for me, but I was taken by that girl Bailie's (sp?) first name. Baylee Almon was the name of the beautiful little one-year-old baby who died in the Oklahoma City bombing. She was the little one in the famous photo of the firefighter tenderly carrying a baby's body out of the rubble. So even though the spelling of the AI Bailie's name is different, I'll think of that little baby every time she appears on AI.

Akron Watson was later uninvited from the Hollywood auditions

I don't put the name with a face, so am not at all concerned about Akron's tale of woe. But what would AI be without at least a touch of soap opera stuff going on. :)

Oh, and while I have the time, just who is styling Simon's hair this year? Very weird. A sort of modified flat top, but parted down the middle. Very unflattering, in my opinion. Makes him look like a blockhead.

Yes, that's him. I thought that part about him serenading the secretary was too funny!

yeah, something smells fishy. THey need to give more of an explanation, otherwise AI is going to come out the bad guys in this situation, whether they deserve it or not. Look at slingblade two yrs. ago, and they left him in? Their response he was honest and told them up front. Well so did this guy. What's up?

From last nights show, I really liked Akron Watson. Too bad if he's left out.

Haley Scarnato....wedding singer....was ok
Baylie Brown....Krum farmer....cutie
Jimmy McNeal.....Cupid....my favorite

Poor Akron! I did like his voice -- very nice top notes; sorry we won't be hearing from him. AI gets very mysterious about things, don't they? They probably have figured out it's easier to keep their mouths shut, than give a reason and then have the fans jump all over them for giving a crummy reason.

And this thing with Ashton (Ashley? whatever...) is astounding. Who in their right mind would know they had a shot at something like AI, that could change their whole life, and go out and deliberately do something that could ruin that? Duh. Shame if she is kicked off. She has gorgeous eyes and good bone structure ... I thought the stylists could have done a lot with her.

Another contestant in trouble with the law:

Reality TV Magazine uncovered two articles about Ashlyn Carr. One article revealed that American Idol contestant Ashlyn Carr was a Sam Houston State University student, and another article revealed that a Sam Houston State University student named Ashlyn Carr was arrested for pouring sugar in her ex-boyfriend’s gas tank.

An August 26, 2006 article on MySanAntonio.com reports on the American Idol San Antonio, Texas auditions and mentions Sam Houston State University student Ashlyn Carr, 18, of Sugar Land. A November 14, 2006 article in The Houstonian Online reports on a Sam Houston State University student that had sugar poured into his gas tank. The student gave the University Police Department a list of people that he thought might be responsible. According to The Houstonian Online, “One of those suspects, Ashlyn Carr, 19, was called in by UPD and confessed to the crime. She was arrested on Criminal Mischief charges, a state jail felony and booked into the Walker County Jail.” Since the arrest happened after Ashlyn’s American Idol audition, there is no telling what impact it had on her participation in the competition.

Some really marginal people were sent on to Hollywood this season. They will be weeded out very rapidly, I think.

From last night, Baylie is my pick. A beautiful, energetic, upbeat girl with a great voice!
