Anybody who sings through their nose like that hasn't had proper voice training. I bet Hetty could tell us more about that.
I missed both of last week's episodes ... was really on bedrest last week and sitting up in front of the TV just wasn't an option. :( (But we bought a recliner yesterday so I hope to be back in the swing this week!)
As for why people sing "through their noses" -- well, ideally you would like a *blend* of resonances. Your whole head (but especially your nasal passages) are one echo chamber, your mouth and throat are another echo chamber, and your chest is another. (Really, your whole torso, head and neck have some resonance value.) As you sing in different ranges (head voice or chest voice, high or low) the emphasis passes from one chamber to another. People who sing through their noses usually have had no training, or it's possible they've had some bad training. You can learn to "place" the resonances in different spots (for instance, singing in chest voice, you still might want a fair amount of nasal placement to give your voice a sharper edge so you don't sound too "hooty"), and sometimes bad teachers who don't really know what they're doing can cause young singers to get kind of screwed up that way. Also there can be physical issues ... for instance, someone with bad nasal allergies or infections might have trouble getting enough nasal resonance.
So much for my dissertation! LOL! Can't really comment on the singer in particular since I didn't hear them, though.
LOL! There's a lot of truth in that toon :)
Good morning, Jonny. Cold is going away and I'm feeling pretty chipper. Thanks for asking. :)
Thanks, Hetty. That was a great explanation for the non-singers among us.
ROFL! Great cartoon. I hope Brian Williams sees it.
. I hope Brian Williams sees it.....
I wonder if he ever lurks on FR, I bet we all just shock him. :) I never watch him, has he been critical of AI?
There is alot of truth in the toon. :) I failed to ping pookie when I posted it this morning. He had it on his daily toon thread. Between AI and 24, pookie has had alot of really funny toons about the shows. :)
Sorry for the oversight pookie!
I think he was one of the ones moaning about AI being "meaner" this season. Of course the ratings giant AI is not an NBC show. LOL.
the ratings giant AI is not an NBC show. LOL
I don't believe there is one show I like that is on NBC. They are all on FOX(AI, 24, House) or USA (Monk and Psych) Those are the only ones I watch. I do like Extreme Makeover HOme, but rarely get to watch it because it comes on when I'm at church. But NBC has some of the smuttiest, low class shows right now.
A few others who were selected for the bright lights were Perla Meneses, who has a strong resemblance to Shakira and Jared Faller -- who is in the Navy and felt it neccessary to wear his uniform. He must have run out of clean clothes.
I can't think of a decent one either. AI, 24, House, Dog Whisperer & a few do it yourself type things are about it for me. Years ago I watched ER but it didn't take NBC long to ruin that one too.
Yep, I used to watch ER too. When the lesbian came on and the characters kept getting strange, I stopped watching. Same for Law and Order, I used to love that show, now I just think "eh."
:)
What a be-yotch! Real nice. No talent, annoying hag.
(was that too harsh?)
Oh yeah, the evil spawn of Joan Rivers and Fran Drescher.
I guess she finally realized she has no singing talent. That's why she's blogging for TV Squad.
GO NAVY!
Nope :)
Is this the place to be for tonight's American Idol?
