Bingo. You have a career. You still sound like a good parent to me. As I mentioned, I believe that the majority of career parents are like you - with a career, but the clear priority going to that of the children. Of course the majority of people would rather not work and stay with their children. But that's not often an option.

I believe that parents who put their careers ahead of their children (except in the case of true need) are doing their kids a grave disservice and have their priorities screwed up.

My wife also had a job. We agreed that she would give up her job after the baby was born and we'd downsize our lifestyle accordingly so that WE, not some 3rd party, would raise our own kids. There is a difference between having one parent home and having none and plenty of studies have bourne that out.

Personally, I could care less about Mary Cheney. If not for the fact that her bizarre pregnancy and "family" is now going to be paraded before us for the next 9 months non-stop, I wouldn't even give her a second thought.
