That what blows a hole in the UnFair Tax supporter's argument. Government spending will continue and the rate will have to be raised.
Yes, but that will expose the true cost of an out-of-control government. The problem with the current system, (besides governmental intrusion into our personal lives through income reporting) is that so much of the taxes we pay are "hidden" and people have no idea just how much tax they are paying. With a consumption tax that breaks down to a single rate, this cost is apparent for all to see, and maybe then we will have a revolt against unnecessary spending.

Only limited spending begets limited taxation, and No society ever taxed itself into prosperity -- anywhere.

The majority of taxes show up on your pay stubb every week. Truely hidden taxes like corporate taxes are a small portion of federal taxes.

As far as I know, the FairTax does not replace all taxes - just certain taxes. What's to prevent the growth of other "hidden taxes"?
As long as government can cut taxes in the present and charge spending to the future, people are not going to know what government is costing them, or care.
