OMG
Seriously, Nickle Mines is VERY out in the middle of nowhere. About as rural as Lancaster County gets nowadays.
I live near and work in this area. There just NO WORDS for this...none. Prayers to all of the communities affected. HUGE PRAYERS
Because they have little use for higher education. They work with their hands primarily; they are usually farmers and craftspeople.
To be more accurate:
40 00'35.13"N, 76 07'44.12"W
Ole Roy?
The murderer was named after dog food marketed by Wall Mart?
Makes sense actually.
surveillance cameras are a joke. first of all, they don't prevent anytning at best they record events. Secondly, for them to be any kind of warnign device, they have to be monitored on a constant basis by people on perpatual alert. difficult to do for long periods fo time without going stir crazy.
And going into lockdown mode takes time, in a situations where time is critical, how long does it take to locate and contact someone with lockdown authority - and how long does it take that person (who will most likely have questions before giving the order) to order a lockdown?
Then there's the mechanism for the lockdown. how do you
communicate a lockdown? Via public address? that also alerts the perp. Then you have to physically do the locking (Many doors are not kept locked, and many teachers don't have keys anyway.
And what do you do with people in public areas? In the hallways? rest rooms? Outside?
And do you really want to notify the police everytime someone "strange" (whatever that means) approaches? Maybe it's a parent you just don't recognize? or the new sales rep for one of your vendors? Or any number of other scenarios?
All you'd do would be to desensitize folks to alarms - for false alarms would be rife.
and you never explained why you wouldn't want your teachers armed. what are you afraid they'd do?
Taxi driver? So would that be within their community? If so, an odd way to describe the position.
Yes, well that is true too.
Some strange posts today.
Are you still here?
Yes, those are certainly contributing factors.
Good movie, but the picture is inappropriate for this thread.
Now THAT's some hard work (especially at harvest time). Only thing harder on the hands is cotton (and nobody does that by hand anymore, as far as I know).
Democratic Underground response to this:
"...maybe KKKarl told his brainwashed operatives to "Play some card" so that the MSM "news" could be filled up with these shootings?!?"
"having "outsider drifters" come in to attack schools, seems an easy way to bring up the topic of targeting "off the grid/nutty" citizens as domestic terrorists legally...tinfoil perhaps...but I can see questionable laws getting passed in the wake of these incidents to "protect children""
"I don't think so, but I believe the shootings are a direct result of bad policy that can be traced to the corrupt, uncaring Republicans in power."
disgusting.
But it would give the victims a chance to stop the terrorist short. Presently, schools are advertised victim zones. If some of the teachers and staff were CCW holders, there would be an opportunity for the victims to fight back.
Actually, from reports coming out now, it looks like Physicist was right - see post 491.
It's only fair.
The Amish are accused on every A Q thread.
