I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.

He's ashamed that his true views came out for everyone to hear.

Oddly enough the statement of Gibson's does not confirm that what he said was the anti semitic remarks attributed to him. I am making no assumptions about his exact quotes until written verification of the report is supplied by the arresting officers or until Mel admits it himself.

He has in the past made remarks which are very ugly about certain females he has known.( in a 1995 interview he called a female assistant he once had a C***T). But I have never read any anti-Semitic slurs by him. His father, yes, but not Mel Gibson.

Even when his movie the Passion was decried by prominent Jewish leaders Mel did not rant about " Jews causing all the wars or make other anti Jewish remarks" so why now?
It just does not make sense.

If he did make the remarks then by all means an apology is necessary. It would also be helpful if he publicly stated that he does not agree with his father's view about Jews taking over everything from the Federal Reserve Board to the Vatican. He should also receive some kind of community service to work with holocaust survivors and their families. Plus a very big donation to organizations that fight anti semitism would not be remiss.

Actually, I thought his statement sounded acceptable.

I'm willing to wait and see.

Totally different than Kennedy's initial statement a few months ago.

He's ashamed that his true views came out for everyone to hear.

Alcohol and drugs contaminate what is contained in the heart. I forgive him and hope he gets the help he obviously needs.........

That statement is pure damage control.

And he does truly hate the Jewish people.

"He's ashamed that his true views came out for everyone to hear."

Exactly. He probably got drunk BECAUSE of being mad at Israel at this time. He IS anti-Semitic. His dad was anti-Semitic. Accept it people. I am sure he's sorry for that and for his behavior but he will pay a price for this and he should. That's life

Couldn't you show a little mercy?

Maybe someday you will need a bit of mercy yourself.

Give the guy a break!

I always suspected he was an anti-Semite. Maybe the people who stuck their heads in the sand for him will admit the truth. Better late than never.

I have to say that I am really disappointed.

For starters, I cannot believe that he would be stupid enough(at 50) to get behind the wheel that drunk. He could have killed or hurt a lot of innocent people!

Secondly, I am really disgusted with the Anti-Semetic garbage that has come out of his mouth. Normally, I try to give people some space and not judge them so harshly, but to say what he said is a disgrace!

I am a Catholic and most definitely do not hold his views of the Jewish people. His kind of opinion makes it harder for decent Catholics to convince Jewish people that we are not hate mongers towards their culture. The majority of us are not! But, Hey, thanks a lot Mel! Now I know why my Sister-in law(Jewish) thought that because my husband had become a stronger Catholic, that he now hated Jews! She just blew me away when she said that because that was the furthest thing from our minds! I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic School and was NEVER taught to hate or blame the Jews for Christ's crucifixion. We were always taught that he had to die for all of us, and that it was at OUR hands!

I guess when you have a Father who thinks that the Holocaust was a fairy tale, than this is pretty much what you get!

Go ahead and flame me if you want, but I can tell you that I was praying that this was not true, and very sad that it is!

beer is a great truth serum. You want to know what people really think...get them boozed up and put them in an untenable position (getting arrested is good as an example). Then watch them spew the truth as if you injected them with sodium pentethol and tortured them.

Isnt' AA a quasi religious group? Part of the 12 steps is you have to believe that you are powerless and turn your life over to God and ask him for help.

I'm starting to think that Parker and Stone from "South Park" are more brilliant than I originally thought.

Did anyone here see the 2 episodes entitled "Bloody Mary" and the "Passion of the Jew"?

I haven't read the entire thread yet and maybe somebody mentioned it. If not, watch it. Parker and Stone are geniuses. They called it 3 years before this thread started.
